Ukiah Residents Injured in Fatal Accident

I’m Ed Smith, a Ukiah car accident lawyer. On August 4, 2017, two women from Ukiah sustained traumatic injuries and one man from St. Croix lost his life after being involved in a rollover collision in Cloverdale. The details that have been reported by authorities so far can be read in the below article.

Accident Info

According to information reported by California Highway Patrol (CHP), the collision happened on Highway 101 just north of Geysers Road outside of Cloverdale at around 6 p.m. A woman from Ukiah had been driving a 2001 Mitsubishi Montero occupied by three passengers ranging in age from 18 to 24 years old. The vehicle was headed north on 101 towards Ukiah when, for unknown reasons, the woman lost control of the vehicle.

After the driver lost control, the vehicle traveled off of the roadway and into the shoulder where it overturned. While the vehicle was rolling, the two male passengers were ejected from their vehicle. Officers later noted that they believe the men were not wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.

Injuries

When responding emergency medical officials got to the collision scene, they found that one of the ejected men had sustained fatal injuries. The man was declared dead on site.

The three other occupants of the car were also found to have sustained injuries, though the nature and severity of their injuries have not been reported. CHP indicated that the woman in the passenger seat was able to exit the vehicle on her own, but that the driver of the vehicle needed to be extricated by emergency responders.

Rollover Accidents

Rollover accidents can be extremely dangerous. SaferCar.gov, a website funded by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), reports that rollover accidents have a higher rate of fatality than most other types of collisions.

SaferCar.gov indicates that, while rollover crashes only account for about 2.1 percent of accidents nationally, they cause almost 35 percent of all United States auto accident deaths. Additionally, most of the people who lose their lives in rollover crashes (69 percent) are found to have not been wearing seatbelts during the crash.

Recent Ukiah Accidents

Recent accidents that have affected the Ukiah area include a July 24, 2017, accident in which a Santa Rosa man suffered fatal injuries after driving off of Highway 101 in Ukiah and traveling down an embankment before crashing. Authorities have still not determined what caused the man to lose control of his vehicle.

Another recent accident in Ukiah took place on July 21, 2017, when a three-vehicle collision fatally injured an elderly couple that had been attempting to turn off of Highway 20. The couple was struck by an oncoming vehicle and knocked into the path way of a semi truck.
