Fatal Ukiah Pedestrian Crash

One person tragically passed away during a Ukiah pedestrian crash that occurred on Sunday, January 19, 2020. According to information reported by California Highway Patrol (CHP), the incident occurred late at night on a local highway and involved one vehicle as well as a pedestrian. Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office officials have not yet reported the identity of the fatally injured individual. Additionally, no other people were injured as a result of the collision.

Crash Details

CHP reports state that the accident took place at 11:00 p.m. on Highway 101. A 22-year-old man from the community of Reedly was driving a silver-colored Ford F-150 heading northbound near Ukiah when his vehicle struck a man walking in the road. Emergency response staff dispatched to the crash scene reported that they found the pedestrian with critical trauma. Sadly, he was officially declared deceased on-scene.

Investigation

A CHP investigation into the accident is currently underway. Police stated that the driver remained at the crash scene and cooperated with officers conducting preliminary investigations of the accident. However, collisions like this one are often difficult for police to investigate because they are not able to ask the decedent what happened. When injured parties are unable to give testimony, investigators are liable to overlook important accident factors.

To make sure that the case is investigated to the fullest extent, it’s vital to contact a Ukiah wrongful death lawyer who has experience privately investigating serious car accidents. An experienced attorney is often able to uncover evidence that otherwise would have been neglected.

Wrongful Death Damages

Families who lose a loved one during a car accident can be left in a very difficult situation. First of all, the emotional pain that comes along with a sudden death can be intense and even overwhelming. Many people have a difficult time keeping up with their daily lives after such a tragic loss, and coping with grief can take time, care, and support from your loved ones and community. However, the sad fact is that families are often unable to spend time focusing on their emotional wellbeing because they are faced with major financial issues.

A death in the family can mean a major loss of income for your household. Additionally, our loved ones typically perform services that we rely on and can be very expensive to replace, such as cooking, cleaning, home repair, childcare, and more. On top of funeral and burial costs as well as medical bills related to the fatal accident, grieving families can be left wondering what options they have for moving forward with their lives.

Calling An Attorney

People who’ve lost a loved one in a crash deserve to have security. Thankfully, many families can obtain payments for their losses, including lost income, services, and more by filing a wrongful death claim. However, these claims are complicated, and liable parties often try to disclaim responsibility. The best thing you can do to ensure that you and your loved ones are fairly compensated is to call a Ukiah wrongful death lawyer who can help you hold at-fault parties responsible.
