Weekend Accident on Highway 20 Kills Two in Ukiah

Two residents of Ukiah recently lost their lives due to a three-vehicle collision that happened on the morning of Friday, July 21, 2017. The reported information about this tragic accident can be found in the article below.

Accident Details

Authorities of the California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that the accident occurred at about 8:50 a.m. in Redwood Valley only a few miles north of Ukiah at the intersection of State Highway 20 and Road 144.

CHP’s report indicates that a 70-year-old female motorist had been driving with a 77-year-old male passenger in a 2015 Nissan Altima and attempted to turn off of Road 44 onto the eastbound section of Highway 20. As the Nissan was turning, it was reportedly struck by an oncoming 2009 Nissan Titan truck that had been in the westbound lane.

CHP said that the impact of the accident caused the Altima driver to lose all control of her vehicle. The vehicle reportedly careened into Highway 20’s eastbound lane, right in front of a large oncoming semi-truck. According to reports, the semi truck was not able to come to a halt before it collided into the passenger side of the sedan.

Deaths and Injuries

Reports from medical officials who responded to the scene of the accident indicate that the two elderly occupants of the Nissan Altima were both killed by the impact of the semi-truck. The names of the deceased have not yet been released to the public pending notification of next-of-kin.

The driver of the Nissan Titan, a 25-year-old male from Lakeport, was taken to the nearby Frank R. Howard Memorial Hospital for emergency treatment of what medical officials reported to be moderate injuries.

The driver of the semi-truck, a 52-year-old man from Lodi, did not receive any injuries as a result of the accident.

Wrongful Death

The death of a person that you love can be overwhelming. Those going through the mourning process have a lot on their plate and usually need ample time to come to terms with the tragedy they’ve faced. However, the hard truth is that the parties responsible for your loss are typically not enduring the same hardships and are completely focused on trying to disclaim their responsibility in the eyes of courts and adjusters.

This is why calling a lawyer as soon as you can is vital in instances of a possible wrongful death. Having somebody on your side can prevent responsible parties from covering up evidence that would otherwise be extremely important to your case.
