U.S. 50 Traffic Toward West Sacramento Backed Up Due to Vehicle Rollover

A vehicle rollover in Sacramento occurred along eastbound U.S. 50 on June 28 that blocked both lanes and caused heavy traffic heading into West Sacramento. The accident happened around 3:35 in the afternoon at the connector to northbound Interstate 5 in the Land Park area, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP) incident report. A determination of the cause of the rollover is underway by CHP traffic accident investigators.

The Dangers of Injuries in a Vehicle Rollover

In rollovers, the potential for serious injuries is high due to the nature of the crash. Injury risk increases if a person isn’t using a seatbelt or other restraints when the vehicle rolls over because it can cause ejection from the vehicle. Injuries caused by flying debris inside the vehicle are also possible in a rollover accident. A vehicle’s parts can crush occupants if they don’t have adequate protection. Passengers should wear seat belts while traveling in an automobile at all times to reduce the risk of suffering such severe injuries.

Roof Collapse Due to a Rollover

Various injuries can result from roof crush, including traumatic brain injuries, broken bones, lacerations and fatalities. Some auto manufacturers fail to build their vehicles with enough roof and side strength to keep them from collapsing in a rollover, even though they are required to do so in order to sell their vehicles. The reduction in survivability space is also a consequence of roof crush.

Rollover accidents can also damage vehicles beyond repair and inflict physical harm to occupants. In addition to causing fuel spills, fires and other hazards, rollover crashes can also result in additional injuries or even death. When the roof of a vehicle collapses, retaining it is vital for engineers to examine. An auto product liability claim may be filed if the manufacturer is found to be responsible for the injuries or deaths.

Negligent Road Maintenance in a Vehicle Rollover

There is also the possibility of roadway negligence contributing to a vehicle rollover accident. There are many factors that can be considered negligence, such as overgrown foliage, malfunctioning traffic lights, potholes, poor overhead lighting, etc. Injury lawyers’ investigators may determine whether government negligence took place by examining the intersection.

Action can be taken against the government entity that designed and maintained the area. In contrast to other personal injury claims, claims involving government entities have a shorter time limit – six months. In this situation, it may be a good idea to hire an accident lawyer. This ensures that the paperwork is filed within the deadline. Otherwise, the case will not be heard by the court.
