State Route 99 Off-Ramp Accident Injures One Person

A two-vehicle accident in Sacramento caused an injury to one person on May 6. The crash occurred along northbound State Route 99 on the 12th Avenue off-ramp at around 6:30 a.m. in the North City Farms area. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) police report said the accident involved a white sedan and a Dodge van.

Both vehicles ended up on the right-hand side of the off-ramp, and one person complained of pain. No information was released on whether that individual was transported to a hospital for further treatment or treated at the scene of the two-vehicle accident. The CHP is conducting an investigation to determine fault.

Seeking Legal Advice Following a Two-Vehicle Accident

Ramp accidents can cause serious injuries, even though they are usually at lower speeds. However, the at-fault party will probably not admit to causing the collision, and neither will their insurance company. This is why you need an injury lawyer to handle your claim. At AutoAccident.com, we’ve taken many two-vehicle accident claims to successful conclusions for our clients, enabling them to obtain compensation to pay their medical costs, for their lost time at work, and for the pain and suffering.

Causes of Highway Ramp Accidents

Ramps entering or exiting a highway are a common location for a two-vehicle accident. According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, about half of all ramp accidents happen while exiting, and around 36 percent occur while entering. Another small percentage of ramp accidents happen while passing through a ramp or access road. Proper ramp management is essential to safety. Some of the causes of these collisions include:

  • The change in speeds: Ramps commonly have a lower speed limit than those used on a highway. Drivers exiting have to slow down on the highway to prevent entering a ramp too quickly. Those who are entering have to speed up to merge with highway traffic.
  • Cutting across lanes: Motorists anxious to reach an exit ramp can cut across lanes, which can lead to a two-vehicle accident or even a chain-reaction crash.
  • Rear-end collisions: Drivers waiting at a red light at the top of an entrance ramp can end up being rear-ended if the motorist behind them isn’t also prepared to stop.
  • Sideswipe collisions: A driver who decides to try and switch lanes while on an entrance or exit ramp can end up causing a two-vehicle accident involving a sideswipe.
  • Speeding drivers: Speeders are a danger on entrance and exit ramps because the speed limit is usually reduced.
  • Entering a ramp going in the wrong direction: A driver who enters a ramp going in the wrong direction can end up causing a head-on collision. Usually, drunk drivers are guilty of this type of offense, but it can also be someone unfamiliar with the road or an elderly or young driver who makes this mistake.

Investigating Your Two-Vehicle Accident

To place a claim for compensation following an accident injury, it must be proved that another driver or entity was negligent. To do this, our investigators collect the evidence needed, which includes:

  • Checking for mistakes in the police report
  • Searching for roadway, business, and traffic surveillance cameras that could have filmed the two-vehicle accident
  • Interviewing witnesses who saw the accident as it happened
  • Examining the roadway for evidence that the government entity charged with maintenance failed in its duties
  • Performing accident reconstruction, which is used both by insurance companies and in court
