Two People Injured in Dog Pack Attacks Near Cohasset Road

Dog pack attacks that injured Chico residents occurred on July 14. A call was made to the Chico Police Department shortly before 8:00 a.m., who said she was attacked by around 10 dogs in the northern part of Chico around the intersection of Cohasset and Eaton roads. While going to the location of the dog attack, other calls came in that were being reported by others.

Officers Arrive to Investigate Dog Pack Attacks

When officers arrived at the scene of the first phone call, they found up to eight dogs, either pit bulls or crosses, had run after and attacked a male on a bicycle. The woman who was attacked had gotten out of her vehicle to help when the dogs turned on her. Both people were free, and the dogs ran into a camp in the area occupied by unhoused people.

The bicyclist sustained severe injuries to his leg and hand. The woman had minor bite trauma to her leg. Officers followed the dogs into the camp, where one of the animals bit an officer’s pant leg. Chico Animal Control was called to the site, where the animals were caught and removed to the shelter. They are currently being quarantined. All the dogs belonged to one of the unhoused people who was absent during the attacks.

Dog Packs Attacks and Their Causes

One dangerous dog on the loose can be trouble. However, a large group of them can be lethal. Domesticated dogs living in packs can become aggressive toward humans if they feel threatened or their owners do not provide adequate discipline. Additionally, dogs kept in cramped living conditions and/or not correctly socialized can become aggressive toward humans.

California Leash Law

In California, leash laws by the cities and counties provide a safe and secure environment for pets and pet owners. Leash laws aim to ensure that all animals are safely restrained or in proper confinement while in public places. All dogs off the owner’s property must be leashed in Butte County.

Recovering Compensation After a Dog Bite Injury

Another essential part of the California leash law is that it compensates when an individual has suffered a dog bite injury. The pet owner may be held responsible for all medical expenses and other damages related to the injury if their animal was off-leash or not properly restrained at the time of the incident. This means that individuals injured by a dog bite may be able to recover financial compensation from the pet owner’s insurance company or through a lawsuit.
