Driver Remains at Scene of Serious Motor Vehicle Accident

Police officers stated that the driver remained at the pedestrian accident scene and was cooperating with the investigation into the cause of the collision. The driver was also transported to a hospital with unreported injuries. According to their investigation, the driver was going west along De Long Avenue and lost control of the vehicle before turning onto Redwood Boulevard northbound.

Negligence by Drivers That Can Lead to a Pedestrian Accident

There are many ways a driver can be negligent and cause a motor vehicle accident involving a pedestrian, such as the following:

  • Failing to yield the right-of-way: Drivers who fail to yield the right-of-way when they should, such as when a pedestrian is crossing an intersection on a green light or in a crosswalk, can cause serious accidents.
  • Driving through a red light or stop sign: Another common cause of a pedestrian accident is when a driver fails to obey posted traffic signals. Drivers who run red lights or stop signs can strike pedestrians as they cross the street or collide with them while making a turn.
  • Distracted driving: Pedestrian accidents are also often caused by distracted drivers, such as those who are texting, talking on their cell phones or fiddling with the radio while behind the wheel.
  • Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs: Drivers impaired by drugs or alcohol pose a serious threat to pedestrians and often cause devastating accidents.
  • Speeding: Excessive speed is one of the most common causes of pedestrian accidents as it decreases a driver’s ability to stop in time if someone on foot suddenly appears.

When a motorist is negligent and causes injuries to a pedestrian, the walker may be able to place a personal injury claim against them. Your injury lawyer can determine what type of negligence caused your accident and hold the driver or other entity responsible. This allows the injured person to recover the cost of their medical expenses, and unpaid time away from work and reimburse them for their pain and suffering.
