State Route 99 Traffic Affected by Multiple Crashes

Multiple vehicle collisions occurred on November 4 near a highway entrance ramp in Sacramento. The initial collision involved three vehicles that included a Toyota sedan and a Dodge Charger. Both accidents happened around 8:03 in the morning along north State Route 99 just south of the eastbound Florin Road entrance ramp. Injuries were reported in the first accident. However, those who were injured were treated at the scene, and no one was transported to a hospital for additional evaluation.

Added Information About the Multiple Vehicle Collisions

According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP) report, a short distance ahead of this crash, a second accident involving two vehicles occurred simultaneously. In the first crash, the number one lane was blocked, with two of the vehicles left facing in the wrong direction. In the subsequent crash, both vehicles ended up on the roadway’s right-hand side, and the accident did not impede traffic. Both accidents are being investigated to determine why they occurred by the CHP.

Causes of Multiple Vehicle Collisions

Several accidents can occur in the same location at times and are usually caused by negligence. When the first vehicle collides with the second, traffic comes to a stop. Unfortunately, suppose the drivers of vehicles coming upon that accident are not alert. In that case, they can end up causing an additional accident themselves by slamming on the brakes or taking an emergency maneuver. It’s easy to see how a traffic accident can be difficult to sort out with regard to liability. This is one of the reasons having an experienced injury lawyer to help you obtain the compensation you deserve is important.

Driver Error as a Cause of an Accident

Multiple vehicle collisions are usually caused by driver error, which can include the following:

  • Speeding is a big contributor to accidents that involve multiple vehicles. A speeding driver cannot slow down in time to avoid a collision or may lose control of their vehicle.
  • Distracted driving is a major cause of all types of accidents. From talking on a cell phone or texting to accessing GPS or changing a radio station, looking away from the road, taking your hand off the wheel and thinking about something other than driving is dangerous.
  • Running a stop sign or red light is common at traffic lights, resulting in multiple vehicle collisions.
  • Undue fatigue can lead to multiple vehicle collisions. Studies have shown that driving when too tired can be as dangerous as being intoxicated.

Investigating Crashes That Involve Multiple Vehicles

Because more than one driver may be at fault in multiple vehicle collisions, it is more complicated to investigate. By conducting a proper investigation, the evidence is uncovered that proves fault. This allows our client to obtain the compensation they deserve, which can cover their medical bills, money lost from being unable to work, and their pain and suffering. Among the areas that our investigators check are:

  • The police report is checked for accuracy.
  • Witnesses are interviewed for corroborating statements.
  • Accident reconstruction is performed. It shows the positioning of the vehicles and evidence that illustrates which driver was at fault.
  • Surveillance cameras in the area are checked to see if the accident was captured on tape.
  • Road maintenance is checked to ensure that a pothole, poor lighting, a malfunctioning light, or other problem didn’t cause the accident. If it did, the government entity in charge could be held liable.
