Two Killed in Freight Truck Accident in Fresno County

Young Couple Die in Truck Collision in Fresno County

A man and a woman believed to be in their early 20s were tragically killed following an accident with a large commercial truck in Fresno County. The accident happened at about 1:30 pm on Saturday, December 10, 2022.

Details of the Deadly Collision

According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), officers responded to calls of a two-car crash at DeWolf and East North Avenues in Clovis. Investigators said a Nissan Altima driven by the couple was stopped at a stop sign at DeWolf Avenue. The freight truck was traveling east on North Avenue, which did not have a stop sign.

Police said for unknown reasons, the Altima pulled out into the path of the oncoming truck. The young couple died at the scene. The truck driver was not injured and remained at the accident site to cooperate with authorities. Investigators do not believe drugs, alcohol, or the weather are factors in the accident.

The CHP said that while some roads in the unincorporated area have stop signs and are controlled intersections, others are not. They said drivers must always go the speed limit in that area and look left and right at every stop sign before proceeding.

Losing a Loved One in an Accident

The loss of a loved one is a tragedy like no other. After someone is killed in a negligent or reckless act, surviving family members may be entitled to recover economic and non-economic damages in a wrongful death claim. While coping with grief and coming to terms with the loss, surviving family members may not understand the effort and time into bringing a wrongful death case. Family members may depend on an experienced truck accident lawyer to work on their behalf to obtain the monetary compensation they deserve.

What Is a Wrongful Death Lawsuit?

A wrongful death lawsuit is filed against the person that caused your loved one’s demise. It is essentially a way for the family to survive financially. This prevents them from losing their home or being unable to care for children. Filing a wrongful death lawsuit involves contacting a personal injury attorney in Fresno.

Damages Recoverable in a Wrongful Death Claim

While no amount of money can ever compensate families for their pain, the financial relief that comes from the at-fault parties may be crucial to a family in their time of need. Some compensatory damages recoverable in wrongful death cases include the following:

  • Funeral and burial expenses
  • Medical costs
  • Loss of financial support
  • Loss of love, care, companionship, and protection
  • Lost guidance and parental supervision
  • Pain and suffering

Since each case is unique, a thorough investigation is often necessary for wrongful death claims. An experienced wrongful death lawyer may consult with specialists, such as economists, medical experts, and accident reconstruction experts, to prepare a solid case to present during negotiations with the insurance company or in court, if necessary.
