Two Fatally Injured In Willows Area Crash

On Sunday, August 8, 2021, two people sadly passed away after being involved in a Willows area crash. Officers of the California Highway Patrol (CHP) state that the incident involved a single vehicle and happened in the morning just outside of the Bluegum. One decedent was identified as Glenda Seth Pickering, a 62-year-old woman from Longview, Washington. The other decedent was identified as a 56-year-old woman from Kelso, Washington, but authorities have not yet released her name pending family notification.

Crash Details

The crash happened at around 6:05 a.m. on Highway Interstate 5 at the intersection of Glenn County Road 39. According to a news release from California Highway Patrol, Pickering was driving in the area when, for unknown reasons, she lost control of her vehicle. The vehicle eventually drove off-road and struck a tree. Reports indicated that the broadside of the car was partially wrapped around the tree following the accident.

Response

Police reached the scene shortly after it took place and, according to CHP, attempted to rescue the driver and passenger who were still inside of the vehicle. Sadly, both individuals were unresponsive and were pronounced deceased by medical officials on-site. No other vehicles or individuals were reported to have been involved in the crash.

Investigation

CHP states that their investigators are still investigating the possible cause of the collision, but have not indicated what, if any, causes they believe could have played a role. Frequently, collisions like this one happen because of something the driver isn’t able to control such as a malfunctioning car part or a poorly designed portion of road.

Fatal Accident Investigations are Important

Investigating a fatal collision is a challenge to police, especially when there are no surviving parties to interview about what took place. Without this critical insight, officers are liable to overlook key evidence that families need in order to hold at-fault parties financially responsible for damages.

In order to ensure that a deadly car crash receives a full, fair investigation, it’s best to seek help from an experienced Willows wrongful death lawyer. A skilled attorney can investigate the incident themselves and prioritize making sure that you and your loved ones are able to claim compensation for important losses like funeral and burial services, lost household income, pain and suffering, and more. In many cases, families are able to obtain the compensation that they need in order to have financial security while they are processing their grief.
