Two Dead, One Hurt After Covelo Crash

On Sunday, October 25, 2020, two people tragically lost their lives and one person suffered serious injuries during a Covelo crash. The Ukiah area California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that the accident occurred late at night and involved only one vehicle. Mendocino County authorities indicated that the decedents were an adult man and woman, but have not released their identities.

Crash Details

The accident happened at around 11:46 on Howard Street to the north of the intersection at State Route 162 near the Hidden Oaks Casino. According to police, a woman was driving a Toyota Tacoma northbound on Howard with a passenger in the front seat and another in the back. For reasons that police do not currently understand, the vehicle traveled off of the eastern edge of the street and traveled a short distance before it crashed through a nearby fence. After colliding with the fence, the Toyota continued on until it crashed head-on into a tree, causing serious damage to the front end of the vehicle.

Response

The collision was reported to CHP shortly after it took place and dispatchers immediately sent out a response team to the accident site. When they reached the area, responders found that all three vehicle occupants had sustained major injuries. Tragically, both the driver and the front-seat passenger passed away at the accident site. The female back seat passenger was placed on a helicopter ambulance and flown to the Enloe Medical Center in Chico to receive intensive care. Updates on her condition have not been made available.

Investigation of Covelo Crash

CHP has reported that its officers are currently conducting a full-scale investigation of this fatal accident. So far, police have only mentioned high speeds as a possible factor. Even when an accident involves only one car, it can still be quite complicated. In many cases, car accidents happen due to a number of factors, some of which may be outside of driver control, like defective car parts. If you suspect a defective car part contributed to an accident, please contact an experienced car accident lawyer at once. Be sure to preserve the vehicle as evidence so it may be inspected for defects.

Recovering After a Fatal Accident

The effects of fatal accidents on families can be enormous. Not only do families typically experience intense feelings of grief, but are often also left in a difficult financial situation that leaves them feeling completely overwhelmed. Losing your loved one may also mean losing an important income source or access to valuable services like childcare or home maintenance. Because of these issues, it’s common for families to worry about how they’ll keep living their lives without the support of their loved ones.

While it’s impossible to replace a person you love, it is often possible to obtain payments to cover your personal and financial losses following a fatal car accident. This is possible through filing a wrongful death claim and holding negligent parties and/or insurance companies fiscally responsible. By doing so, many families can obtain money to cover lost services and income as well as payments for non-economic damages related to their quality of life.
