Two Dead Following Modesto Single Vehicle Crash

According to officers of Modesto area California Highway Patrol (CHP), two individuals tragically suffered fatal trauma during a vehicle accident that took place in Modesto on Wednesday, June 26, 2019. The two decedents have been identified by county authorities as a 43-year-old and 65-year-old. However, the fatally injured individuals’ identities are being withheld while authorities notify their families. My sympathy and support are extended to those people who are currently mourning the loss of a family member or friend following this terrible collision.

Crash Information

CHP indicated that the accident happened at about 4:20 p.m. on the southbound side of Highway Interstate 5. Two people had been traveling in a Lincoln Navigator driving south on the highway when the vehicle traveled off the road for unknown reasons. After traveling off the highway, the SUV overturned and rolled down a 90-foot embankment. As the vehicle rolled, the driver was reportedly ejected through a window. The passenger remained in their seat.

Response

Responders were sent immediately to the collision scene. Sadly, when emergency officials arrived, they discovered that both the vehicle passenger and driver had suffered critical trauma and both individuals were declared deceased on-site. CHP noted that both individuals appeared to have been wearing seatbelts when the accident took place.

Investigation

Officials are currently looking into the accident in order to determine what factors may have caused it to happen. So far, officers have not mentioned what, if any, factors they suspect to have been involved. Collisions such as this one are often caused by something that is outside of the control of drivers such as medical emergencies, defective or unsafe vehicle parts, and hazardous roads. In many cases where there were no accident witnesses, a second vehicle may have caused the accident. While the vehicles may have never collided, sometimes a hit-and-run driver never makes contact with the wrecked car. These cases are referred to as “phantom vehicle” cases and commonly cause serious accidents.

In situations where drivers and/or passengers are unable to make their own statements regarding accidents, it is important that families get in touch with an injury lawyer who is able to investigate the accident on their behalf.

SUV Rollovers and Crush Roof Injuries

Because SUVs are top-heavy, they are more likely than most passenger vehicles to overturn. This means that vehicle manufacturers should expect these types of accidents and take measures to protect occupants from being injured by a crushed roof. However, many SUVs are made with roofs that are too weak to hold up to the impact of a rollover crash. When this happens, vehicle occupants can suffer severe injuries that might not have happened if the vehicle had been manufactured properly. In accidents where vehicle parts fail to protect occupants, the manufacturers of the vehicle may be liable to pay for damages so that families can recover the money they need to recover financially and personally.

Contacting an Attorney

After an accident takes place, liable parties are often quick to begin building a legal defense. For this reason, contacting a lawyer as soon as you can is an important part of recovering the payment your family deserves. An experienced Modesto wrongful death lawyer will be able to listen compassionately to your case and give you the specific advice you need.
