Two Killed During Head-On Crash in Sutter County

On Sunday, July 5, 2020, two people lost their lives during a head-on crash in Sutter County. California Highway Patrol (CHP) has stated that the accident involved two vehicles and happened late at night on Highway 99 near Pleasant Grove. Sutter County Sheriff’s Office officials have not yet reported the identity of the two decedents.

Crash Information

The collision happened at around 1:00 a.m. on Highway 99 a short distance to the south of Sankey Road. A woman was driving a white-colored BMW was heading south on the highway when, for unknown reasons, her car entered northbound traffic lanes. While the vehicle was driving the wrong way on the highway, it collided head-on with a silver Toyota that had been heading north at an unknown speed.

After the accident was reported to CHP dispatch, emergency responders were rushed to the crash location. Upon reaching the site, responders discovered that both vehicles had sustained extreme front-end damage and that both drivers were severely injured during the incident. Sadly, both individuals were declared deceased on-site. Reports did not indicate whether or not any other individuals were involved in the accident.

Investigation

CHP has stated that they are actively involved in an investigation into the accident. Investigating officers have indicated that they suspect DUI as a possible accident factor. Multiple vehicle collisions are often caused by more than one thing and many common auto accident factors are outside of driver control. These can include issues with the road, defective car parts, and more.

After deadly crashes like this one, police can’t ask involved drivers about what happened and may have an incomplete picture of the collision as a result. Unfortunately, this can lead police to leave important evidence unnoticed. The best way to ensure that the accident is investigated with your family’s rights in mind is to work with a wrongful death attorney. An experienced lawyer can commit time and resources to privately investigating the accident.
