 Truck Kills Bicyclist Auburn

I’m Ed Smith, an Auburn personal injury lawyer. An elderly man was bicycling in Auburn when he was struck by a truck during the afternoon hours of Saturday, March 18, 2017. Unfortunately, the man suffered fatal injuries from the bicycle accident.

What Happened?

A 65-year-old man was riding his bicycle along Auburn-Folsom Road in the vicinity of Sunrise Ridge Circle at about 1:00 pm. For unknown reasons, a truck crashed into the bicyclist. Sadly, the impact of the collision caused the man to suffer grave injuries.

What Caused the Bicycle Accident?

It is still too early to determine what caused the bicycle accident. It generally takes authorities up to two weeks to prepare a Traffic Collision Report. The bicycle accident caused this area of Auburn-Folsom Road to be shut down for several hours for authorities to conduct an investigation. Investigators have not indicated whether criminal charges will be made against the driver of the truck.

Bicycle Accidents

Bicycle accidents typically cause major injuries. Bicylists have virtually no protection whatsoever when hit by a motor vehicle. When a bicyclist is struck by a car or truck, they usually suffer traumatic, catastrophic or even fatal injuries.

If a bicyclist is struck by a motorist that has no insurance or flees from the scene, the victim oftentimes may not know how to obtain compensation for their losses. If a cyclist that suffered injuries from a bicycle accident has uninsured motorist coverage on their own automobile insurance policy, they may be able to file a claim against their own policy to obtain compensation for their damages. If a cyclist does not have this coverage but resides with a relative who has this coverage on their automobile insurance policy, they may also be able to file a claim for damages against that policy. For more information, consult with an experienced personal injury lawyer.
