Truck Accident Injures Five Near Stanislaus County

I’m Ed Smith, a Modesto car accident attorney. A party of five from Moses Lake, Washington were driving near Westley on Saturday, March 3, 2018. Unfortunately, the group was injured in a truck accident resulting in hospitalization.

I would like to send my healing thoughts for a swift and full recovery to the injured parties involved in this collision.

Accident Details

A 25-year-old Washington state man was driving his 2003 Ford southbound along Interstate 5 near Howard Road shortly after 2:00 pm. The Ford was traveling behind a 2017 Freightliner big rig driven by a 63-year-old San Pedro man moments before approaching areas of heavily accumulated water along the southbound lanes. The San Pedro man reportedly slowed his big rig to 15 miles per hour as he noticed vehicles ahead were beginning to hydroplane. For unknown reasons, the Ford allegedly failed to stop in time and collided with the rear-end of the Freightliner. The big rig and the Ford came to a stop along the right lane of the roadway which partially blocked oncoming traffic. Officials reported that no other vehicles were involved in the accident.

Nature of Injuries

Emergency crews responded to the scene of the truck accident to render immediate aid. Upon arrival, the Ford driver was evaluated and transported to the Memorial Medical Center in Modesto for treatment of major injuries. The passengers of the Ford, 1-year-old boy, a 4-year-old girl, and a 24-year-old woman, all suffered minor injuries and were also taken to the Memorial Medical Center. The other passenger, identified as an 11-year-old girl, was transported to the UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento.

What Caused the Accident?

Investigators have not yet released an exact cause of the accident.

Truck Accidents

An accident involving a tractor-trailer truck is more likely to result in traumatic injury or even death than a collision between two vehicles. A 2015 report by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) indicated that approximately 87,000 accidents resulting in serious injury involved large trucks. Some of the serious personal injuries sustained in truck accidents include the following:

Truck accidents can happen at any time. Sadly, this type of collision can forever change the life of the injured party. If you or someone you love has been seriously injured in a truck accident, it is important to protect your rights by considering your legal options. Contacting an experienced Modesto accident lawyer is crucial in obtaining fair compensation for all incurred losses.
