Accident at Villa Vista Way Intersection Causes Major Damage to Two Vehicles

A traffic injury occurred in a two-vehicle crash in Sacramento on December 26. The accident involved a Ford Taurus and Kia Suv and occurred around 7:55 p.m. at the intersection of eastbound Villa Vista Way and Marconi Avenue. The Sacramento Highway Patrol (CHP) said the accident blocked the lanes of Villa Vista Way, and one of the vehicles caught on fire. Both cars sustained major front-end damage. Fortunately, only a minor injury was reported in the collision. It is under investigation by the CHP to determine how the traffic injury accident occurred and to assign fault.

Head-on Collisions in Intersections Can Lead to a Serious Traffic Injury

Head-on collisions in an intersection often result in a serious traffic injury. Because the speeds of both vehicles combine during impact, a driver and passengers inside the car are fortunate if they walk away with only minor injuries. Some of the ways in which a head-on collision can occur at an intersection include:

  • The traffic signals are mistimed or malfunctioning, which makes drivers think it is safe to go when it isn’t. If this is the cause of the traffic injury accident, the injured party may place a claim against the government entity in charge of maintenance to recover damages.
  • A driver goes into a left turn just as the arrow turns red. This common cause of a head-on collision with a resulting traffic injury happens because cars from the other direction start up right away, catching the turning motorist in the middle.
  • Making a right-hand turn when traffic is oncoming can cause both vehicles to clip each other on the front. This type of head-on collision can throw both vehicles into others, causing a serious traffic injury.
  • The driver crosses into another lane or the wrong lane, which can lead to a traffic injury accident.
  • Roadway damage causes a vehicle to go out of its lane and strike another head-on. When problems with the roadway such as potholes, poor lighting or other issues lead to a traffic injury accident, once again, the government entity can be held responsible.

Investigating a Traffic Injury at an Intersection

By conducting an investigation, an injury lawyer can prove how a collision occurred, which points toward the driver who was at fault. In order to place a claim for compensation from this at-fault driver, the evidence must be collected to support it. Among the areas where evidence is sought are:

  • Our investigators go to the site of the traffic injury and collect evidence, inspect the roadway and take photographs.
  • Accident reconstruction is performed, which frequently indicates which driver was to blame for the traffic injury.
  • The report filed by the responding police is examined for accuracy because mistakes could affect the injured party’s ability to file a claim.
  • Witnesses are interviewed.
  • Traffic surveillance cameras are inspected to see if the accident was captured on video.

Once the evidence has been gathered, it is used by our lawyers to construct a case that supports our client’s compensation claim.
