Accident on State Route 99 Results in an Injury

A traffic crash along southbound State Route 99 in Sacramento on May 11 resulted in an injury when one driver’s vehicle went out of control. The accident happened just north of Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard around 10:35 in the morning. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP) incident report, a Honda SUV suddenly crossed three lanes of traffic and struck a Lexus sedan.

The Honda then went past the guardrail and down an embankment ending up on the right-hand side and off the roadway. Emergency responders with the Sacramento Fire Department were called to the scene to check for injuries. The Lexus sustained moderate front-end damage and a blown right-front tire

The fourth lane was shut down while a tow truck lifted the Honda to get it out. The traffic crash is being investigated by authorities to determine what happened that caused the driver to lose control.

Filing for Compensation Following a Traffic Crash

Traffic collisions happen for a number of reasons, but if a negligent driver was the cause of your injuries, you may be able to file a claim for compensation. Compensation pays for all of your medical expenses, your lost wages from being unable to work, and for your pain and suffering, whether physical or emotional. Our injury attorneys have helped many Northern Californians over the years in getting the compensation that they deserve.

Why Drivers Lose Control of Their Vehicles

There are a number of reasons a driver can lose control of their vehicle. Most of them involve some type of negligence, including:

  • Distracted driving: Unfortunately, many drivers are texting or talking on a cell phone while driving, which can end up causing a traffic crash. Even though drivers in California are allowed to use a hands-free cell phone, it’s still dangerous.
  • Drinking and driving: Inebriated drivers have difficulty maintaining control over their vehicles. Their judgment is clouded, and reflexes affected, which can cause a traffic crash.
  • Speeding: Speeding is a major reason for a traffic collision. Because speed limits are set at the maximum which is safe for motorists, speeding means the driver can more easily lose control of their vehicle.
  • Fatigued driving: A driver who is overly tired can act the same way a drunk motorist does. In addition, they can fall asleep at the wheel, which can easily cause the vehicle to cross over the lanes, ending in a collision.
  • Vehicle defects: A blown tire, brake or steering failure, or other mechanical problems can lead to a traffic crash. The manufacturer, parts supplier, and others may be held liable for a traffic crash that causes injuries in these instances by filing an auto product liability lawsuit.
