Southbound Watt Avenue Blocked by Two-Vehicle Crash

A traffic crash that may have involved a drunk driver occurred in Sacramento on May 9. The collision was reported around 4:29 p.m. along southbound Watt Avenue just north of Whitney Avenue in the Arden-Arcade area. The incident report by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) said that it occurred between a Dodge Charger and Kia and blocked the number two and three southbound lanes on Watt Avenue.

Drunk Driving Suspected in Watt Avenue Accident

A tow truck was required to remove the Dodge. An injury was reported, and one person was transported to Mercy San Juan Medical Center. A phlebotomist was also contacted to administer a test to determine if one of the drivers had been drinking. An investigation is underway to determine fault in the traffic crash.

Liability in a Drunk-Driver Traffic Crash

Due to behaviors exhibited by inebriated drivers, numerous accidents happen every day. The drunk driver often falls asleep at the wheel or turns into oncoming traffic, causing a head-on crash. The inebriated driver lacks the cognitive ability to judge the distance and speed of both their own vehicle and of other motorists. Drunk drivers are also less vigilant and often fail to see not only other vehicles but also motorcycles, bicycles, and pedestrians.

Due to such driver errors, the drunk driver is frequently seen as responsible for an accident. It is imperative that evidence is provided to prove drunk driving. Often, the law enforcement officer at the scene will take the drunk driver into custody and cite them with drunk driving. This can be used in building a strong case against the drunk driver.

Investigating a Traffic Crash

Collecting evidence to prove fault in a traffic crash is necessary when an injured party wants to place a claim for compensation. Our able investigative team heads to the accident site right away to begin gathering that evidence. Some of the areas in which they search include:

  • The investigators look over the police report to find and correct any errors. Mistakes in the police report might make it difficult for an injured party to place a claim.
  • Forensic reconstruction of the accident is performed because it indicates the positioning of the vehicles and can point toward who was at fault. This type of evidence is accepted by the court and by insurance companies.
  • Any witnesses to the collision are interviewed. They can provide statements that agree with how the injured party said the traffic crash occurred. In some cases, a witness might have filmed the accident on their phone.
  • Area business, road, and traffic cameras are examined to see if any of them captured the traffic accident. This strong evidence shows exactly how the traffic crash occurred.

When all of the evidence has been gathered, our injury attorneys go to work. They use the evidence to construct a case that supports our client’s injury claim. In this way, they will be able to obtain the compensation they deserve to recover their medical expenses, wages they lost from being unable to work, and their pain and suffering.
