Traffic Collision Injury to Motorcycle Rider Occurs in Sacramento

Interstate 5 Accident Involves Multiple Vehicles

A traffic collision injury occurred on April 8 in an accident between a motorcycle rider and other vehicles on a Sacramento highway. The crash happened shortly before noon along southbound I-5 and the Q Street off-ramp, blocking the slow lane. The incident report by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) said that a sedan, truck, and possibly two other vehicles were involved in addition to the motorcycle.

Motorcyclist Reported as Injured in Highway Crash

The motorcycle rider, who was on a red and black Honda 500X, was found by authorities lying in the roadway. First responders from Sac Metro Fire were summoned to the scene to assess the rider’s injuries, which were not considered serious. An investigation is ongoing by the CHP to discover how the collision happened and to place fault.

Causes of a Motorcycle Traffic Collision Injury

Highways are common locations for a traffic collision injury due to the congestion, driver negligence, and the higher speeds along these roadways. Motorcyclists are especially vulnerable because of the instability of their bikes and their vulnerability against a motor vehicle. Some of the most common reasons for a traffic accident injury involving a motorcyclist include:

  • Tailgating: Tailgating is responsible for many highway accidents but can be devastating when the vehicle struck by a tailgater is on a motorcycle. The rider can be ejected from their bike and may be thrown into traffic, which can cause more serious trauma.
  • Speed: Speeding can result in a traffic collision injury because the driver may be unable to stop if a slowdown up ahead occurs.
  • Lane-splitting: Lane-splitting is legal in California and is reasonably safe at lower speeds. However, a driver who doesn’t check for a motorcyclist before changing lanes can end up causing a collision that results in serious injuries.
  • Exit ramps: Exit ramps are always dangerous locations because drivers are switching lanes to get off the highway and slowing down at the same time. Because they are concentrating on what they intend to do, they don’t always observe another motorist’s right of way, which can cause an accident.

Proving Fault in a Traffic Collision

Fault by another person or entity has to be proven for an injured party to place a claim for compensation. Our investigators are experienced in going out and collecting the evidence needed. Among the areas where they search for evidence are:

  • The police report is checked by the investigators to ensure its accuracy because this could affect the client’s ability to claim damages.
  • They perform accident reconstruction, which shows how the traffic collision injury occurred.
  • The investigators talk to any witnesses to the accident, which can provide corroborating statements.
  • The area is searched for surveillance cameras that captured the accident on tape.
