Three-Vehicle Crash in Roseville Intersection

A three-vehicle crash happened in Roseville on June 13 that sent one injured person to the hospital. The accident happened shortly before 8:30 in the morning at the intersection of Roseville Parkway and Chase Drive. One of the vehicles involved was a Ford F-150 pickup, according to the report by the California Highway Patrol (CHP). The intersection was closed by police while an investigation into the cause of the accident was conducted. It is unknown at this time whether drugs or alcohol was a factor in the accident.

Intersection Accidents

According to the Federal Highway Administration, there are about 2.5 million accidents in intersections each year. Three vehicle crashes are not unusual. If motorists all obeyed the law when moving through an intersection, the number of injuries and fatalities might be much lower. However, negligent motorists contribute to the majority of accidents. The poor design of an intersection can also cause a three-vehicle crash because views are obstructed, turn lanes are inadequate, or signage is poor. Following are some of the reasons that intersection accidents occur that may involve more than two vehicles:

  • Speeding: Unsafe speeds can lead to accidents with one or more vehicles. This is because the speeder cannot react as quickly in an emergency and needs a longer stopping distance.
  • Driver fatigue: Driving while too fatigued can be as dangerous as other negligent actions. It is difficult to concentrate on the road ahead while sleepy, reflexes are slowed and judgment affected. This can easily result in a two or three-vehicle crash.
  • Poorly designed intersections: Visibility is important at an intersection to avoid accidents such as rear-end collisions or front end crashes. A badly designed intersection can lead to accidents. Too many entrances and exits can also contribute to collisions. Obscured signs, foliage too close to street corners and other problems contribute also.
  • Drunk driving: Drunk drivers cause thousands of accidents every year. Because they are impaired, they can make poor decisions such as running a red light. In addition, reaction time is slowed, and a drunk driver may react too late in an emergency situation.
  • Faulty auto parts: A defect in the steering wheel, brakes or tires can cause a multiple vehicle crash. When this happens, the manufacturer and others can be held responsible for personal injury damages.

Compensation Following an Intersection Accident

It is more complicated to prove fault in a multiple vehicle accident, especially when no one is willing to admit they caused the crash. This is one of the reasons it is important to have an experienced lawyer by your side. You can be sure the other motorists involved in the accident will do so. The lawyer can investigate the site of the crash, and use accident reconstructionists to determine exactly how it happened. There are times when the insurance company is unwilling to pay what you need to cover your medical bills, lost wages, and other costs. By proving fault, the injured person can obtain that compensation by placing a claim in civil court.
