Three Students Injured After Ventilation Equipment Falls in School Cafeteria

Three school students injured after ventilation equipment fell on them were admitted to the hospital.  A section of ventilation equipment unexpectedly fell from the ceiling in the cafeteria at Ellen Feickert Elementary School in Elk Grove, as reported by the Elk Grove Unified School District. The incident took place during lunch while students were having their meals in the cafeteria.

Students Taken to Hospital; School in Contact with Families

Authorities announced that a vent cover from the cafeteria’s air conditioning unit fell and hit one student directly, while also injuring two others in the vicinity. All three students were taken to the hospital for medical assessment. The school district has been in ongoing contact with the families of those injured, but details about their injuries have not been made public yet.

District Conducting Full Safety Investigation

In a letter to families, the Elk Grove Unified School District emphasized its commitment to student safety, stating that the affected area was immediately secured after the incident. The district’s facilities team, in collaboration with external safety inspectors, has launched a full investigation to determine the cause of the equipment failure. Officials assured families that the school will resolve all safety issues before allowing students to return to that area of the building.

Counseling Services Offered to Support Affected Students

Recognizing the emotional impact of the incident, school officials have arranged for counseling and emotional support services to be available on campus for any students who witnessed the event or may need assistance processing the experience.
