Three Chico Residents Dead Following Area Semi-Truck Accident

Three Chico residents tragically lost their lives due to injuries sustained in an auto accident on Saturday, December 21, 2019. Two of the decedents, identified as a seven-year-old and an eight-year-old, passed away at the accident scene. However, the third decedent, identified as 18-year-old Chico resident Brayden Lee Frazier, lost his life in the Enloe Medical Center on Monday, December 23, 2019. In addition to the three decedents, the mother of the children, 27-year-old Eva Davies, suffered major injuries. An investigation into the causes of this tragic incident is being conducted by the Red Bluff area California Highway Patrol (CHP).

Crash Details

The accident happened at about noon on Highway 99 near 62nd Avenue. Frazier was driving a 2013 Honda Insight traveling north with Davies as the front seat passenger and the two children seated in the back of the vehicle. The Honda reportedly crossed over the highway median and collided head-on with a southbound 2015 Freightliner big rig. Police say they currently do not understand why the Honda crossed the median.

CHP immediately sent out emergency response staff to the accident site. When responders reached the scene, they found that both children had tragically suffered fatal injuries during the crash. Frazier and Davies were both found with life-threatening injuries and were rushed to the hospital for treatment. Reports have indicated that Davies remains in the hospital with major trauma.

Investigation

While police are investigating the crash, no suspected collision factors have been mentioned in CHP reports. Officers have asked that accident witnesses contact Red Bluff CHP at (530) 527-2034 to help with the investigation.

When drivers lose their lives, police lose a side of the story. Because fatally injured drivers aren’t able to report what happened to investigators, important accident factors like defective car parts or hazardous roadways often go overlooked in cases like this one. This is one of the reasons that it is so important to contact a wrongful death attorney. A good lawyer will be able to conduct their own investigation into the crash with your family’s rights in mind.

Trucking Accidents

Commercial vehicles are very large and are liable to cause extreme damage even in low-speed crashes. Trucking companies are aware of these risks and are usually ready to begin building a legal defense right away. Often, these companies will send a legal team out to the accident site itself to collect their own evidence and take witness statements.

Because these companies are quick to act, it’s critical to call an experienced wrongful death lawyer as soon as you possibly can. The earlier that your lawyer can begin working on your case, the better they can ensure that your family receives the payment that they deserve for the losses you’ve suffered.
