Teenager Injured in Orland Area Car Accident
On Sunday, August 9, 2020, a teenaged driver was injured during an Orland area car accident. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports that the collision happened early in the night in a rural area to the west of the city of Orland. The teenager reportedly suffered serious injuries and was hospitalized following the accident. However, he was expected to recover from his trauma.
Crash Information
CHP stated that this crash occurred at about 8:30 p.m. on County Road 200 close to the intersection located at County Road 206. A 17-year-old resident of the small community of Elk Creek was driving east on County Road 200 in a 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe SUV. For reasons that are not currently known, the SUV drifted right and eventually drove off-road. As it left the road, the vehicle crashed into a concrete drainage culvert. After the initial crash, the Tahoe continued off-road and struck a small tree, uprooting it and causing the vehicle to overturn and land on the driver’s side.
After the accident took place, the driver was reportedly able to extricate himself from the wrecked SUV. The injured teen flagged down a passing driver who contacted CHP. CHP immediately sent a team of responders to the site. Medical officials determined that the teenager had suffered lacerations to his head and had him taken to a hospital for treatment and further evaluation.
Investigation
CHP has indicated that they are conducting an investigation into what could have caused this crash. However, no likely causes have been reported at this time. Even accidents that only involve one vehicle can have multiple causes. Often, these crashes are caused by things drivers cannot control, like defects or hazards in the road and/or malfunctioning car parts. This means that even though the driver was the only person involved in the crash, there may be other at-fault parties.
Rollovers and Liability
A rollover accident is very likely to cause serious injuries. When a vehicle overturns, it’s likely to put serious pressure on the roof. With many cars, especially heavy vehicles like SUVs, the roof isn’t able to withstand accidents and crush during rollovers.
