Teenager Dies During Car Accident Near Covelo

On Saturday, October 10, 2020, one individual tragically passed away as the result of a car accident near Covelo. Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office authorities have identified the decedent as a 17-year-old boy. However, the decedent’s name is currently being withheld by county officials. California Highway Patrol (CHP) indicated that the collision involved a single vehicle and did not injure any other individuals. The cause of the crash remains under CHP investigation.

Crash Information

According to police, the accident happened on State Route 162/Covelo Road at the intersection at Biggar Lane. At approximately 10:50 p.m., the teenager was driving a Ford F-150 eastbound on SR 162. For unknown reasons, the truck veered to the right and traveled off the southern roadway edge. After driving off-road, the truck continued a short distance and eventually collided with an iron fence before crashing into a wooden utility pole. Police indicated that the teenager was ejected from the truck during the crash, coming to a rest on the asphalt of Biggar Lane.

Response

CHP was notified about the collision and immediately dispatched a team of responders to the location. When they reached the wreck, police discovered that the teen was critically injured. Medics tragically pronounced the injured driver deceased on-site.

Investigation

After conducting preliminary investigations, police have indicated that high speeds may have been a collision factor. However, a full report regarding suspected collision causes has not yet been released. In many cases, single-vehicle collisions happen due to more than one cause, and many common crash factors cannot be controlled by the involved driver. Non-driver crash factors commonly include driving on dangerous roads or operating a vehicle with defective parts like steering systems, accelerators, or even tires.

The process of investigating a deadly car crash can be a difficult job for police, especially if they are unable to interview any of the individuals who were involved in the accident. Sadly, this can lead the police to leave important evidence unnoticed. For this reason, it’s important to have an experienced attorney privately investigate the crash.

Calling a Lawyer

Losing a person that you love is never easy and can be even more traumatic after a sudden, unexpected accident. In many cases, people experiencing such a loss may feel shocked and overwhelmed by their grief. In times like these, it’s important to seek support from your family and friends and do what you can to take care of yourself.

However, at-fault parties usually do not experience the same emotional trauma and will take quick action in order to disclaim any responsibility for the collision. In many cases, this leaves families unable to recover the payments that they deserve. Because of this, it is important to contact a lawyer as soon as you are able.
