Teenager Killed During Rural Auto Accident Near Redding

On Monday, August 10, 2020, one individual sadly lost her life in a rural auto accident near Redding. The decedent was identified by Trinity County officials as a 15-year-old girl from Modoc County. The collision involved three vehicles, including a semi-truck, and left one other person with injuries. The cause of the accident is still under California Highway Patrol (CHP) investigation.

Crash Information

The accident occurred at around 9:05 a.m. on Highway 299 near the small community of Douglas City a few miles to the west of Redding. According to CHP, the teenager was heading east on the highway in a white-colored 2003 Chevrolet pickup truck.

Police indicated that the teen attempted to pass an eastbound semi-truck by entering the westbound lane. While passing, the teenager’s vehicle collided head-on into a second Chevrolet pickup truck, driven by a man from Texas. The collision sent the teen’s truck into the air and it struck the left-rear end of the big-rig’s trailer. Both pickup trucks eventually came to a stop inside of the westbound highway lane.

Response

The crash was reported to CHP immediately after it occurred, and dispatchers rushed emergency responders to the scene. Officials reaching the crash site discovered that the teen had been critically injured during the accident. Tragically, she was declared deceased on-site.

The driver of the other Chevrolet was found with reportedly minor injuries and received treatment on-site. Responders indicated that the semi-truck driver was not injured during the incident.

Investigation

As CHP officers continue accident investigations, no collision factors have been confirmed. Anybody who witnessed the collision or has relevant information is asked to reach out to CHP by calling (530) 623-3832. In many cases, accidents such as this one are caused by non-driver collision factors like defective truck parts or hazardous roads.

Furthermore, deadly car accidents are difficult for CHP to investigate because officers aren’t able to ask decedents about the events that took place. Unfortunately, this can mean that police don’t uncover critical evidence that could be a major part of a wrongful death case. By having a Redding wrongful death lawyer privately investigate the crash, you can ensure that a skilled professional is doing everything they can to make sure your family’s rights are protected.

Trucking Accidents and Quick Action

After accidents involving large commercial vehicles, it’s important to call an attorney as soon as you possibly can. These vehicles are almost always owned by large companies that are well aware of the risks involved in operating such massive trucks. Trucking companies usually start building a legal defense right away, and the sooner your attorney can begin working on your case, the more effectively they can make sure at-fault parties are held financially responsible. Often, families are able to obtain significant compensation through wrongful death claims that provide them with financial security during a very difficult time.
