Teen Injured During Redding Hit-and-Run

On Friday, December 13, 2019, a teen boy was hurt during a Redding hit-and-run collision. The accident happened in the afternoon and left the teen with serious injuries requiring treatment at an area hospital. Redding Police Department (RPD) officials say that they are currently searching for the missing driver and vehicle.

Crash Information

The accident happened at 3:02 p.m. The teenager was walking on the sidewalk on North Court Street near Riverside Drive and Middle Creek Road. A pickup truck was described as a dark blue or black late 1990s to early 2000s Dodge. The truck reportedly has either a short bed or an extended cab. Police indicated that the vehicle was last seen on Riverside Drive, driving away from the accident with the mirror on the passenger side dangling from its mounting point.

When emergency response personnel reached the injured pedestrian, they discovered that he had a leg fracture as well as injuries to his face. Medical staff at the hospital indicated that the teen is expected to survive his injuries.

Investigation

As police are actively looking for the missing driver, officials have asked for help with their investigation. Anybody who may have information about the location or identity of the vehicle or driver has been asked to get in touch with RPD by calling (530) 225-4200.

Pedestrian Injuries

Pedestrians aren’t protected by any of the safety features that vehicle drivers and passengers have. This means that, even in relatively minor accidents, pedestrians are likely to suffer serious injuries that can dramatically affect their lives. Injuries such as a fractured leg can make it difficult to get around your own home and may affect your ability to work or participate in activities that are important to you. Likewise, facial injuries can have a major impact on your day-to-day life as well as your mental health. Recovering from these injuries is often a difficult process and, for many, may be prohibitively expensive.

Redding Hit-and-Run Accidents and Liability

Because accidents cause such serious financial and personal issues, injured parties are able to seek compensation from negligent drivers through filing a personal injury claim. However, when the driver can’t be found, people often worry about how they will be able to recover for their losses. In these cases, injured parties are often able to claim compensation from their own insurance company. This is possible through an optional part of your policy called “uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage.”

However, insurance policies can be complicated, and this type of coverage varies depending on your particular policy. Furthermore, insurance companies sometimes offer less payment than their clients deserve. For these reasons, it’s always best to contact a Redding personal injury lawyer who can help you understand what your options are for claiming the payments you and your family need.
