Roseville Collision Fatalities Occur Along State Route 65

Two collision fatalities occurred on northbound State Route 65 at Stanford Ranch near Roseville on August 25 in a traffic crash. Two adults died as well as their dog, and a minor was injured. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that the accident happened around 10:30 p.m. close to the Rocklin-Roseville city limits near the Galleria Boulevard exit.

Adults Were Not Wearing Seat Belts

Witnesses to the accident who spoke to CHP investigators said the Ford Expedition swerved suddenly toward the center divider and experienced a rollover. The driver of the vehicle was reportedly going around 70 mph when the accident happened. When the Expedition stopped rolling, it ended up upside down.

Collision Fatalities

The driver, a male, and an adult female passenger died in the crash. Neither was wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident. A minor female, age 12, was transported to UC Davis Medical Center with moderate injuries and had been belted in. The dog died after being ejected from the SUV during the rollover.

Accident Under investigation After Collision Fatalities

The northbound traffic was diverted while an investigation into the accident was conducted and the scene cleared. The CHP said it was unknown whether drugs or alcohol played a part in the accident.

Rollovers and Collision Fatalities

Although any vehicle can experience a rollover, SUVs, vans and light pickups are more apt to. This is because they are taller than other vehicles, and that makes the center of gravity higher. Rollovers have a higher rate of collision fatalities too because the airbags deploy and then deflate as the vehicle is still rolling. This increases the risk of serious injuries.

Rollover Causes

Most rollovers are caused by driver error. Others can occur for the following reasons:

  • Traffic accident
  • An aggressive driver who forces another car off the road
  • Auto defects such as problems with steering, brakes or accelerator
  • Road damage such as potholes, uneven pavement and others

Roof Crush Causes Collision Fatalities

Auto manufacturers are only held to minimum standards on roof strength in a vehicle. Unfortunately, roof crush occurs in some rollovers, which increases the risk of severe injuries and collision fatalities. When a roof crush is suspected, preserving the vehicle is important because the manufacturer can be held liable.

Being Supportive After a Death

Friends and family members are always shocked after a sudden death and don’t know how to react and be supportive. Some suggestions include:

  • Call and send flowers or a sympathy card.
  • Visit if it is permissible. A friend or family member who is grieving needs a sympathetic ear. It is part of the process of beginning to recover.
  • Offer to help out whether by running errands, babysitting, or helping around the house.
  • Send over prepared food or take the grieving person out to eat.
  • Remember that grief doesn’t stop after the funeral. Be there and stay in contact.

Investigation of a Rollover Accident in Collision Fatalities

Accident collision fatalities have to be investigated to place a wrongful death claim for the surviving family members. In it, it must be shown that negligence by another individual or entity was the cause. I have years of experience successfully handling these types of cases and may be able to do the same for you. Investigating to uncover evidence is important. Some areas of investigation include:

  • Investigators check the motor vehicle for signs of mechanical defects and roof crush. This is why it is important to preserve the vehicle after a crash that results in injuries or collision fatalities.
  • Accident reconstruction is performed.
  • Traffic and road surveillance cameras are sought because they might have captured the crash in real-time on film.
