Two Hurt in Suspected Napa DUI Crash

A suspected Napa DUI car accident left one person with injuries on Wednesday, August 4, 2021. The Napa Police Department (NPD) and the California Highway Patrol (CHP) both assisted with accident response, and officers report that the collision involved two vehicles and resulted in a DUI arrest. The injured individuals were expected to recover, and police investigations into the crash are ongoing.

Crash Information

The accident happened at about 12:05 a.m. at the intersection of Highways 12/121 and 29. A 2016 Ford Mustang was driving southbound on 29 when, according to reports, it entered the intersection against a red light. In the intersection, the Mustang crashed into a Jeep Liberty, colliding with its broadside. Officers say that the Jeep had been making a left-hand turn from eastbound highway 12/121 in order to enter northbound lanes of Highway 29.

Police arrived on-scene shortly after the accident took place and found that both involved drivers had suffered injuries. The 22-year-old driver of the Mustang was placed under arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence resulting in injury. After being arrested, the individual was taken to the Queen of the Valley Hospital for medical treatment and subsequently booked into the Napa County Jail.

The Jeep driver reportedly suffered an injury to his forearm. Whether or not the man was hospitalized for his injuries has not been reported.

Investigation

As police continue to investigate the accident, no suspected causes outside of driving under the influence have been reported as suspected factors. Often, accidents involve multiple factors and may include things like defective car parts or possibly dangerously designed roads. In these cases, third parties often share partial responsibility for causing the incident.
