Community Events in Suisun City

Suisun is a small, yet lively city located on the very edge of the San Francisco Bay Area. Residents enjoy the strong sense of community in a small town while living close enough to the major metropolitan area to go out on a Friday night. However, residents don’t need to travel in order to enjoy exciting events. A few upcoming Suisun community events are detailed below.

Halloween Parade

On October 31, 2017, the city of Suisun will host its annual Halloween Parade and Costume Contest. A tradition that has been going on for more than 50 years, this event is the focal point of Suisun’s Halloween festivities.

Sponsored by the Suisun City Firefighters Association, the event will include a parade down Main Street through Suisun’s historic downtown and prizes awarded to contestants by age category. An additional prize awarded to the contestant with the best police officer or firefighter costume. The event will take place rain or shine and treats will be provided for all.

Registration for the contest will begin at 3:30 p.m. and the parade will begin at 4:30 p.m.

Where the Wild Things Are Nature Hike

Area residents are invited to meet at 700 Main Street, Suite 210 in Suisun on Saturday, November 4, 2017, for the “Where the Wild Things Are” nature hike. The hike will offer attendees the chance to explore the hills tucked between Fairfield, Benicia, and Vallejo while Solano Land Trust docents guide them through the area.

The docents will share their knowledge about the flora and fauna native to the King-Swett Ranches area, offering education about local habitats and animals during the hike. Area locals are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity, as this nature area is usually closed to the public.

To learn more about the event, those interested can visit this website. Additionally, the hike is a recurring event and usually takes place on the first Saturday of every month.

54th Annual Nor-Cal Regional Juried Art Show 2017

On November 4 and 5, 2017, The Fairfield-Suisun City Visual Arts Association will be hosting a juried art show. Artists from all across the Bay Area have been invited to submit their work to be judged for entry by a panel consisting of three accomplished artists from the greater SF Bay Area.

Cash prizes will be awarded to first, second, and third place winners of 14 categories including oils, acrylics, watercolor, sculpture, mixed media, computer art, printmaking, jewelry, and more. Individuals who would like to know the location, times and further details of the event should visit this website.

Staying Safe

No matter what you plan on doing in the coming weeks, safety should be a top priority. Getting to events usually requires using roadways. Whether you are driving, walking, or riding a bicycle, using roadways always comes with the risk of being involved in an accident.

Those looking to stay safe as they go to and from events should remember to always follow the rules of the road and employ their best safety practices. Drivers should remember to stay alert and attentive while driving and make preparations for a safe ride if they plan on drinking. Pedestrians should try their best to remain visible and walk predictably near traffic.
