Seventh-Grade Student Dies Following Bicycle Accident in Grass Valley

A seventh-grade student dies following bicycle accident in Grass Valley following a collision that occurred earlier this month in Grass Valley, according to the Grass Valley School District and the Grass Valley Police Department.  The child was a student at Lyman Gilmore Middle School.

Collision Occurred on Whiting Street

The crash took place at approximately 6:40 p.m. on May 13, 2026, on Whiting Street. According to police, the collision involved a bicyclist and a vehicle.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found the child suffering from critical injuries. Emergency responders arranged for the victim to be airlifted to a Sacramento-area trauma center for advanced medical treatment.

Student Succumbs to Injuries

The Grass Valley School District later announced the passing of a seventh-grade student at Lyman Gilmore Middle School.

Counseling and Support Services Available

The school district stated that grief counseling and support services would be made available to students and staff impacted by Jeremiah’s passing. Officials also asked the public to respect the privacy of the Ortega family during this difficult time.

The Grass Valley Police Department likewise extended its condolences to the family and continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.
