Stockton Multiple Vehicle Crash

On Wednesday, May 11, 2016, a multiple-vehicle accident occurred on Highway 4 in Stockton.

What Happened?

A big rig and several other vehicles collided on Highway 4 west of Filbert Street.

Several people suffered injuries and had to be transported to area hospitals.

The conditions of the victims are unknown, according to the Stockton Fire Department.

The Stockton multiple-vehicle crash occurred around 3:00 p.m. on Highway 4’s eastbound travel lanes. According to the California Department of Transportation (CalTrans), the location is just west of Filbert Street.

Firefighters said several vehicles and a big rig were involved in the traffic collision. One pickup truck rolled over and rested on the vehicle’s roof.

Multiple eastbound lanes had to be closed. All lanes of Highway 4 in the eastbound direction of travel were reopened about 5:30 p.m. after rescue crews assisted the injured and cleared the scene of the wreck.

What Caused the Stockton Multiple Vehicle Crash?

The cause of the crash is under investigation. The investigating agency usually takes one to two weeks to release a traffic collision report. It can take longer when there are severe injuries and/or fatalities.

At the Edward A Smith Law Offices, we genuinely respect those in the big rig community who serve our nation. Many commercial truck drivers and their companies have decades of safe driving records. Many still, however, have not been adequately trained in safety.

Common Causes of Big Rig and Motor Vehicle Accidents

Common causes of big rig and motor vehicle accidents include distracted drivers, drowsy, or improperly loaded cargo. Speeding and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs can also be a factor.

If you’ve been involved in a traffic collision with a big rig, it’s critical to call an experienced truck accident attorney as soon as possible after your crash to discuss the necessary steps to take to protect your rights and preserve crucial evidence. Evidence can fade over time and be lost, cleaned up, altered, repaired, or destroyed after an accident. Time is always of the essence in these types of cases.
