Hit-and-Run Pedestrian Accident in Stockton

An elderly pedestrian was struck by a hit-and-run driver in southeast Stockton during the afternoon hours of Thursday, May 4, 2017. Sadly, the collision caused the pedestrian to suffer fatal injuries.

What Happened?

A woman drove along Eighth Street near Mariposa Road at about 1:45 pm. The woman’s vehicle struck a traffic light pole and then crashed into an elderly woman who was walking along the sidewalk. The impact caused the traffic light pole to fall down.

The motorist who struck the elderly pedestrian attempted to flee from the scene of the pedestrian accident. The hit-and-run driver did not get very far, thanks to the help of a Stockton Unified School District police officer driving in the area. The officer observed the driver leave the scene, was able to catch up to her, and detained her until authorities from the Stockton Police Department arrived. The woman has been taken into custody by police.

Stockton Hit-and-Run Pedestrian Accident Victim Passes Away

Unfortunately, the pedestrian passed away as a result of injuries sustained in the collision. Police in Stockton indicated that the driver who killed the 83-year-old female pedestrian now faces charges in connection with vehicular manslaughter stemming from the felony hit-and-run.

Our deepest sympathies are with the loved ones and friends of the woman who passed away.

Hit-and-Run Pedestrian Accidents

When a driver fails to render aid to an injured pedestrian, the victim may suffer traumatic, catastrophic, or even fatal injuries if they do not receive medical attention as soon as possible. When a pedestrian passes away at the scene, officials cannot get their side of the sequence of events leading up to the crash. If the motorist flees from the scene and there are no witnesses to give an eyewitness statement, the cause of the crash may be unclear. This may leave the family members of the victim with countless unanswered questions. This is why it is essential to contact an experienced injury lawyer who will thoroughly investigate the cause of the accident and hold the negligent party accountable. A trained lawyer can often determine the identity of the hit-and-run driver through investigative techniques. Even if the driver is not found, insurance may still exist to cover the expenses of the injured or deceased party through an under-insured or uninsured motorist policy. Contact an injury lawyer for more information.
