Solo Vallejo DUI crash

I’m Ed Smith, a Vallejo car accident lawyer. On Thursday, February 16, 2017, a Vallejo resident was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol after being involved in a single-vehicle collision.

Accident Details

The car accident occurred sometime shortly before 3:30 in the morning on Sonoma Boulevard, only a short distance south of the intersection at Mini Drive near the Rancho square shopping center. A 19-year-old male from Vallejo, had been driving his vehicle south on Sonoma Boulevard when he lost control, veered off of the road, and drove the vehicle into a ditch.

Police Response

Officers of the Vallejo Police Department responded to the incident after receiving a call from a citizen who reported seeing the crashed vehicle. When the officers arrived at the scene of the crash, they found the man still inside the vehicle, apparently under the influence of alcohol. Upon further investigation, officers also determined the man to be an unlicensed driver. He was arrested for these offenses at the accident and booked into the Solano County Jail.

Injuries and Drunk Driving Statistics

No injuries were reported as a result of the accident. However, drunk driving accidents are responsible for almost one-third of all car accident deaths nationwide. Additionally, many who are arrested for driving while intoxicated are repeat offenders. It is important to remain vigilant while driving, especially at night, and to remain on the lookout for drunk drivers who may not be able to properly control their vehicles.

DUI and Liability

Per the law of the state of California, any driver who is determined to have been operating their vehicle under the influence of alcohol or other intoxicating substances is considered at fault for any accidents they are involved in while doing so. Any parties who have been injured or received damages to property as the result of an intoxicated driver are therefore eligible to receive compensation.

Who Else is at Fault in a Drunk Driving Accident?

While an intoxicated driver is always considered negligent in an auto accident, they are not always the only party who can be considered liable for damages. In many states, there are laws that hold clubs, hotels, restaurants, and bars responsible for damages if they do not supply alcohol properly. Even individuals who supply a driver with alcohol before they drive, or allow a drunk person to use their vehicle, can sometimes be held responsible.

Reporting Dangerous Drivers

If you suspect a motorist to be operating their vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, remember to report it to the California Highway Patrol (CHP) or your local police department so that tragic accidents can be avoided.
