Skyway Car Crash Injures Chico Woman

On Thursday, September 3, 2020, a Chico woman was injured during a local car accident. According to officers of the Chico area California Highway Patrol (CHP), the incident involved a single passenger vehicle and took place in the early morning. No other individuals were injured during the accident.

Crash Information

The crash happened on Skyway in the area of Lookout Point just before 7:00 a.m. A woman was driving eastbound in a silver-colored Buick when, for unknown reasons, she lost control of her vehicle. The Buick reportedly overturned and rolled several times, nearly striking a pickup truck. The vehicle finally came to a stop on its wheels in a small ditch off of the northern roadway shoulder. Photos of the crash show extensive damage to the vehicle.

Response

Responders were rushed to the scene after the crash was reported. When they reached the area, officials found the woman inside of her vehicle and determined that she had suffered significant injuries. She was placed on an ambulance and transported to a nearby hospital to receive treatment and screening for more severe trauma.

While investigations into the accident are ongoing, police have suggested that a broken tire may have been the cause of the accident.

Auto Products Liability

When defective car parts such as tires cause accidents, the companies responsible for selling and/or manufacturing those parts are often considered at-fault parties to the crash. In these cases, these companies are frequently liable to pay for damages that people suffered as a result of the crash. This means that crash survivors can file injury claims against auto product manufacturers and retailers in order to obtain compensation for medical bills and other damages like lost wages, wrecked vehicles, personal suffering, and more.

Rollovers are Especially Dangerous

Rollover accidents are proven by the NHTSA to cause more serious injuries than other types of collisions. Rollovers cause a disproportionately high amount of major accident injuries for multiple reasons. However, one of the key factors is weak or poorly built vehicle roofs.

Often, the roof of a vehicle is constructed with low-quality, weak material that easily crumples. In other cases, the roof of the vehicle may be poorly designed and/or not properly tested for safety. When this happens, the vehicle manufacturer can often be held responsible through a products liability claim. However, it is vital to preserve the vehicle following the accident so that your attorney can determine whether or not the roof was an issue.
