Six Suffer Injuries in South Lake Tahoe Accident
On Saturday, February 3, 2018, an auto accident occurred in the South Lake Tahoe area, leaving six individuals with significant injuries that ranged in severity.
Accident Details
California Highway Patrol (CHP) and Lake Valley Fire Protection District (LVFPD) responded to the collision. Officers indicated that the collision occurred at approximately 11:05 a.m. on Pioneer Trail near the intersection of Southern Pines Drive.
Reportedly, an unidentified 29-year-old woman from Stateline, Nevada, had been driving a grey-colored Range Rover SUV on Pioneer Trail at an unknown speed when she suddenly swerved out of her lane. After departing from her lane, the woman collided head-on with a white-colored BMW sedan, traveling approximately 40 miles per hour in the opposite direction.
Photos posted on social media by LVFPD show severe damage to both the BMW and Range Rover, with the Range Rover’s front severely impacted and the BMW missing half of its front end and both passenger-side doors.
Response and Injuries
Emergency responders reported that the woman driving the Range Rover, as well as five of the occupants of the BMW, were injured as a result of the accident. Reports indicate that three of the injured individuals were taken by ambulance to a hospital in Reno for treatment of significant injuries, including a fractured jaw, an injury to the lower abdomen, a spinal fracture, and a brain hemorrhage.
The hospitalized individuals included the drivers of both vehicles as well as one passenger of the BMW who reportedly received a severe concussion. The occupants of the BMW, who all received injuries, included two men and three women aged 19-31 from San Bruno and San Jose.
Updates on the conditions of the injured vehicle occupants have not yet been released.
Accident Investigation
Authorities are, as of now, investigating this collision to determine what factors may have caused it.
Officials indicated that multiple witnesses reported the woman driving the Range Rover had been allegedly driving recklessly before the collision occurred. It is unclear if anyone was under the influence of intoxicants at the time of the accident, but the matter remains under investigation.
