Pickup Exits Roadway in Rollins Lake Road Single-Vehicle Crash

A single-vehicle run-off-road crash occurred near Grass Valley on July 2 when a Toyota pickup went off a cliff, sending two people to the hospital. The collision occurred around 11:00 a.m. along Rollins Lake Road, which is parallel to the Alan S. Hart Freeway. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) incident report stated that the accident was visible from the roadway, and the pickup was about 150 feet off the road.

Injured Parties Rescued in Run-Off-Road Crash

A female opened the door of the pickup and fell out, while a male managed to crawl out of the vehicle. Emergency responders with the Grass Valley CalFire unit were called to the scene, as well as an air ambulance. The roadway was blocked in both directions, as the couple was rescued from below.

Two People Transported to Hospital

The vehicle was left behind following the run-off-road crash and will be recovered later. Both parties ended up being transported by ground ambulance with minor injuries. Determination of the cause of the accident is being handled by CHP traffic collision investigators.

Reasons for a Run-Off Road Accident

A run-off-road crash usually occurs because of negligence by the driver. For example, speeding, distracted driving or fatigue can cause the motorist to lose control and exit the road. However, there are other causes where a run-off-road crash may be possible.

Accidents Involving Solo Vehicles Can Be Caused by Neglected Roads

It is possible for a run-off-road crash to occur on poorly maintained roadways. Drivers can lose control of their vehicles when they encounter upheavals or cracks in the pavement, potholes, bad lighting or other road hazards. In some cases, the motorist might swerve to avoid a hazard and lose control.

Providing safe driving conditions for all motorists is the responsibility of municipalities, states, and federal governments. As a result of their negligence, these entities can be held responsible for any single-vehicle accident injuries that result. It may be worthwhile to contact an accident attorney for assistance if one is injured by a government entity’s negligence within six months of the incident.

An Accident Can Be Caused by an Auto Defect

Faulty brakes, defective tires and steering problems are common auto defects that can cause solo vehicle crashes. Auto defects such as faulty brakes are a major contributor to single-vehicle accidents. Defective steering systems or accelerators can also contribute to single-vehicle crashes.

In order to examine the vehicle for defects, it is important to keep it. An auto product liability claim may allow you to recover compensation if you file it against the product maker, manufacturer, and others in the production line in the event a defective part led to your accident or contributed to it.
