Single-Vehicle Crash Kills Arden Arcade Woman

A single-vehicle crash into a parked car on July 30 caused the death of an Arden Arcade woman. The accident occurred at 9:00 a.m. on Whitney Avenue in the vicinity of Watt Avenue and west of Becerra Way. The unidentified woman, 83, was several hundred feet away from her home when she struck the parked vehicle, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP). A CHP representative said her vehicle was moving at a speed of 25 mph at the time of impact. It was confirmed that the woman was not using a seat restraint. Because of this, she was partially ejected from her vehicle. Authorities declared the Arden Arcade woman deceased at the accident site. No one else was injured in the single-vehicle crash. I would like to take this opportunity to offer my condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.

How an Injury Lawyer Can Help

When a family member dies due to a single-vehicle crash, it is important to determine why the accident happened. This is true whether or not another person was involved. Many accidents happen due to auto defects. For instance, brake and accelerator defects can cause a vehicle to speed up or fail to stop when the brakes are applied. Our investigative team examines the vehicle and checks to see if complaints have been recorded by other owners or if recalls have been issued. If the vehicle is defective, then this information can be used in a wrongful death claim. While nothing can take away the grief and loneliness the family feels, a wrongful death lawsuit can help them survive the financial trauma the loss of a loved one brings. If a defective product was involved in the person’s death, it also brings a sense of justice to those who were unfairly robbed of the joy their loved one brought to them.

Rollovers and Defects

Rollovers are often fatal. One reason many deaths occur in a single-vehicle crash is the strength of the roof. The roof should be able to withstand several times the weight of the vehicle when a rollover occurs. This is important to protect the occupants since a weak roof can easily be crushed during a rollover. When this happens, the vehicle’s weight can press inward on the occupants, causing serious injuries. In such a case, the manufacturers are liable for the damage since they chose to build a vehicle outside of the laws governing roof strength. Roof crush injuries are often severe and many are fatal.

Compensation From a Wrongful Death Claim

A wrongful death claim following a single-vehicle crash can compensate the family for their loss in a number of areas. Some of the most common are:

  • End-of-life expenses such as burial and funeral costs
  • Medical expenses such as ambulance and emergency room costs
  • Lost income the decedent may have earned
  • Loss of household services the decedent provided such as mowing the lawn or caring for children
  • Loss of moral support, affection, and companionship the deceased provided
  • Loss of inheritance the decedent might have provided
  • Loss of consortium experienced by the spouse or partner
