Elverta Road Accident Injures Driver in Single-Vehicle Crash

A single-vehicle crash in Antelope on December 16 seriously injured the driver. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported the accident at around 12:17 in the afternoon at Elverta Road and Pinefield Drive when a Toyota Prius ran into a pole. The vehicle was reported as totaled with major front-end damage.

The injured individual was assessed by first responders with the Sacramento Fire Department and transported to a nearby hospital with what were described as major injuries. The CHP is conducting an investigation into the single-vehicle crash to discover what happened to cause it.

Causes of Accidents Involving a Solo Vehicle

Negligence is a common cause of a single-vehicle crash. However, there are times an accident happens because of another influence. A personal injury lawyer experienced in handling solo vehicle accidents can determine what happened and help an injured person obtain compensation for their medical costs, inability to work, and for pain and suffering. Following are some of the reasons a single-vehicle crash can happen outside of driver negligence:

  • Poor maintenance or road design: If a road design is faulty and a common location for accidents, the government entity in charge may be liable. In addition, lack of maintenance such as potholes, poor lighting, and debris can lead to a single-vehicle crash that causes injuries. Because a claim against a government entity has a different statute of limitations, contacting an injury attorney right away is a good idea. In this way, the paperwork will be filed on time. Otherwise, the case may not be heard in court.
  • Mechanical problems: Auto defects such as in the steering, brakes or accelerator may cause an accident involving a solo vehicle. In these cases, the manufacturer, distributor, and others may be liable through a product liability claim. In this type of claim, negligence does not have to be proven, only that the product was unaltered and used in the way in which it was intended.
  • Unavoidable accidents: There are times when another driver, cyclist, or other causes a motorist to have to take evasive action to avoid a collision. For example, another driver pulls out in front of you or is distracted and enters your lane. By avoiding this collision, it can cause the motorist to become involved in a single-vehicle accident. Roadway and traffic cameras, as well as witness accounts, can corroborate that another driver or person was the cause. In the event the accident was captured on tape, the offending driver may be located and held responsible.

Compensation in a Single-Vehicle Crash

If you are injured in a solo vehicle accident and weren’t responsible for it, you may be able to obtain compensation for your injuries, pain and suffering, and lost wages. This is one of the reasons it is important to retain the vehicle following a collision so that it can be checked for defects and signs that another vehicle or obstacle was involved. An Antelope car accident lawyer can answer your questions, go over your crash details and tell you whether you might have a case for compensation. It’s a good idea to call quickly before evidence disappears or is covered up that could help you. Your first consultation is free when you call us.
