Accident Near Walnut Grove Results in Overturned Vehicle

A single-vehicle accident in South Sacramento on June 27 injured the driver. The accident happened shortly before 7:00 p.m. at Old Walnut-Grove-Thornton Road and North Walnut Grove Road near Giusti’s Place, a local restaurant. This is when the vehicle went off the roadway for unknown reasons and overturned onto its roof.

Driver Injured in Rollover Single-Vehicle Accident

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that the driver was able to exit their vehicle following the accident near Walnut Grove but was limping and bleeding from their hand.

First responders were called to the scene with the Sacramento Fire Department to assess those injuries. No data was provided on whether the injured driver was transported to a hospital or treated at the scene of the single-vehicle accident. The crash is being investigated by the CHP to find out how it happened.

Dangers of Rollover Accidents

Rollovers have proven to be among the most dangerous types of accidents for a number of reasons. Those inside the vehicle have a higher risk of an ejection, which is often fatal. Since the airbags deploy and deflate quickly, that escalates the risk of injury. In addition, seat belts sometimes break, allowing the individual’s body to be tossed around against the steering wheel, dash, and metal parts of the interior. In some cases, roof crush occurs, which can result in serious brain injuries.

What Vehicles Are More Apt to Experience a Rollover?

In any type of collision, SUVs, vans, and light trucks are more likely to involve a rollover, even in a single-vehicle accident. This is due to the higher center of gravity in these vehicles. However, any vehicle, if it is struck just right, can become a rollover.

Causes of Single-Vehicle Accident Rollovers

Most rollovers are due to some type of negligence by the driver, such as speeding or distracted driving. However, there are other reasons a single-vehicle accident can result in a rollover, such as:

  • Auto defects: Any defect in the vehicle’s brakes, steering, accelerator, or motor can end up causing a rollover, as anyone who has experienced a blown tire on the freeway can understand. This is why it is important to retain a vehicle after it has been involved in an injury accident. Our engineers can look over the vehicle and determine if a defect caused the accident. If a defect is found, an auto product liability claim may be placed against the manufacturer. In these claims, negligence does not have to be proven, only that the defective product was used as intended and unaltered.
  • Road maintenance problems: Poor roadway maintenance such as soft shoulders, poor patching, upheavals, potholes, and other problems can lead to a serious injury accident. Because the government entity charged with maintenance can be shown to have been negligent, a claim may be placed against them for accident injuries. The timeline for filing is shorter in a government claim, so it may be advisable to contact an injury lawyer to ensure documents are filed within the deadline. Otherwise, the court will refuse to hear the case.
  • Aggressive or hit-and-run drivers: Some drivers are aggressive and can tailgate, crowd another vehicle or even force another motorist off the road. Hit-and-run drivers obviously strike another vehicle and flee the scene. By conducting an investigation into the cause of the crash, we can collect evidence to determine if another driver caused the single-vehicle accident and fled the scene afterward. Our client can claim compensation either through their insurance company or in court by locating the fleeing driver.
