Woman Trapped in Vehicle After Crash on Dewey Drive

A single-vehicle accident resulting in at least one injury occurred in Citrus Heights on May 4 when a motorist crashed into a power pole at around 12:15 in the morning. Officers with the Citrus Heights Police Department and Sac Metro Fire were at the scene of the accident, which happened on Dewey Drive near Greenback Lane. The accident is being investigated by the Citrus Heights police to determine how it occurred.

Added Information About the Single-Vehicle Accident

When police arrived, they discovered one woman trapped inside a sedan, who was injured and unable to exit the vehicle without assistance from fire department responders. The other occupants of the vehicle were able to get out without assistance. The injured woman was taken to Mercy San Juan Medical Center for evaluation and treatment of her injuries.

Causes of a Single-Vehicle Accident

A single-vehicle accident can result for a number of reasons. Not all of them are the fault of the motorist. Some of the outside causes of a single-vehicle accident can include:

  • Another motorist: An aggressive or negligent motorist can cause another vehicle to swerve, which can result in a single-vehicle accident.
  • Defective auto part: If there is a defect in the tires, brakes, accelerator or steering column, it can lead to an accident. In these instances, the injured person can seek damages from the manufacturer, parts supplier and others through a product liability lawsuit.
  • Government negligence: If a roadway is poorly maintained, the injured person can seek compensation from the government entity responsible for its upkeep. A malfunctioning traffic light, potholes, poor lighting, debris, faulty design and other causes can result in a single-vehicle accident. Because a claim against a government entity has a much shorter statute of limitations, it is important to contact a lawyer as soon as possible. Filing too late can mean that the claim will not be heard.
  • Flying or falling objects: Another motorist can be responsible when a truck or passenger vehicle is hauling items and they fall into the roadway.

How a Car Accident Is Investigated

Investigation to collect evidence provides proof of liability and that a client has a strong claim for compensation. My office is highly experienced in conducting investigations and has a high record of obtaining the compensation that a client needs to pay their medical costs, wages that have been lost and for their pain and suffering.

What Our Investigators Do

Our investigators go out to the accident site right away to gather evidence. They begin by talking to the witnesses and inspecting the police report for errors. The investigators perform accident reconstruction, which provides forensic evidence showing the positioning of the vehicle before and after and can include tire marks, whether the car swerved and other information. They search the nearby area for traffic and business surveillance cameras. In many cases, a nearby camera has caught the accident on tape and can show that driver error was not the cause of the crash.

Road Conditions Have a Part to Play

The road itself can contribute to a single-vehicle accident. This is why the investigators check for poor road maintenance issues such as potholes, which could have led to a crash and may leave a government entity liable. When the evidence is gathered, our lawyers use it to construct a strong case that favors our client. It can be used in negotiating on the client’s behalf with the insurance company or in preparing a court case.
