Single-Vehicle Accident Causes Injuries in Sacramento

State Route 99 Single-Vehicle Accident

A single-vehicle accident in Sacramento resulted in one person being transported to a local hospital with injuries. The collision occurred along State Route 99 southbound just north of the eastbound Mack Road exit ramp around 5:51 in the afternoon, as reported by the California Highway Patrol (CHP). A maroon minivan reportedly crashed into the retaining wall for an unknown reason. A number of vehicles pulled over to the help, and a bus driver who had stopped helped the injured party out of their car. A tow truck was called to remove the vehicle, and the injured party was transported by emergency responders to Kaiser South for treatment and evaluation. The CHP is investigating to determine what caused the crash.

Investigating a Single-Vehicle Accident

The majority of single-vehicle accidents are caused by driver error. These errors can include distracted driving, a medical event, speeding, and many other causes. However, not all accidents involving single vehicles are the fault of the driver. When an outside influence caused a motorist to lose control of his/her vehicle and crash, they may be able to obtain compensation from the at-fault party. This enables them to place a claim for damages to recover their medical expenses, the time they lost at work, and for pain and suffering. The best way to recover appropriate damages is to enlist the help of a seasoned personal injury lawyer with experience in these types of accidents.

Single-Vehicle Accidents Caused by Outside Influences

There are several ways in which a single-vehicle accident can occur without being the driver’s fault. These reasons may include:

  • Another motorist who causes the injured person’s vehicle to swerve out of the way and lose control can be responsible for an accident. This can be caused by a drunk or distracted driver, someone who is fatigued or for other reasons.
  • Lack of proper road maintenance can lead to a severe single-vehicle accident. This can range from poor lighting to potholes, bad design, fissures, or upheavals in the pavement or obstacles in the roadway. In these types of accidents, the government entity charged with the maintenance of the road may be held responsible. However, because of the much shorter statute of limitations in these types of cases, you must contact a lawyer right away. Once the statute of limitations expires, the case will probably not be heard in a court.
  • Problems with the vehicle itself, such as defective brakes, accelerator, or steering, can lead to an accident. In these cases, a product liability lawsuit can be filed against the manufacturer, parts supplier, and others to recover damages.

What a Car Accident Lawyer Does

At the Offices of Edward A. Smith, we go the extra mile to prove your case, so you can claim fair compensation for your injuries. We begin by sending out investigators to the accident site to gather the evidence needed against the at-fault driver. They look for traffic and business cameras that might show the accident in progress, check the police report of the collision for errors and talk to the witnesses. Accident reconstruction is performed as well as searching for road damage that could have caused the crash. Once the evidence is compiled, our lawyers work hard to fashion a case that is favorable to our client. It is used either in preparing a court case or conducting negotiations for you with the insurance company.
