Elk Grove Students Shot

I’m Ed Smith, an Elk Grove Injury Attorney. Two students were shot after school on the afternoon of Friday, September 30, 2016. The students suffered non-life-threatening injuries from the gunshot wounds.

What Happened?

Two male students, ages 16-years-old and 17-years-old, were at Fales Park. The park is located in a residential area along Auberry Drive and is in the vicinity of Edward Harris Jr. Middle School and Monterey Trail High School. The students were hanging out at the park about 25 minutes after school had let out. Authorities said the boys were shot by an unidentified party. Approximately 250 students were still on the high school campus and about 60 students were at the middle school when the shooting occurred. Officers from the Elk Grove Police Department locked down both schools for more than 30 minutes while they initiated a search for a suspect. Investigators gathered evidence and prepared to release suspect information to the public. (See link below).

Witness Statement

Renee Lee, a school crossing guard, witnessed the frightening incident. She indicated that she saw one of the victims grab his stomach after he was shot.  A private party transported the two victims to the hospital to be treated for what authorities said appeared to be non-life-threatening gunshot wounds.

Police Investigation

Police are actively investigating the shooting and hope to bring the perpetrator of this act of violence to justice in the very near future. In the meantime, parents and residents in the area of the park where the shooting took place are overwhelmed with worry and anxiety about just how safe their neighborhood really is.

Police released a video of the three men sought in the teens’ shooting today. You may view the video on this link:

We extend our best wishes for a speedy and complete recovery to the boys wounded in this senseless act of violence.
