Lake Shasta Boating Accident Injures Man
I’m Ed Smith, a Lake Shasta boating accident lawyer. Last weekend, a 29-year-old man from Redding was injured after being involved in an accident while driving his boat on Lake Shasta.
Accident Details
The boat accident occurred in the evening, only a few minutes before 8 p.m. The man had been driving a 1979 Rogers boat and traveling somewhere between fifty and sixty miles per hour when he collided with an unexpected wave. The impact of the collision ejected the man from the boat along with other debris from inside of the vessel. Witnesses said that, when the man was ejected from the boat, he had not been wearing a life jacket.
Friends who had been with the injured man immediately came to help him out of the water. After they ensured that their friend was safe, they began to transport him to the Bridge Bay so that he could receive medical attention.
Emergency Response
Deputies of the California Department of Forestry and Fire and the Boating Safety Unit responded to the accident after finding the debris field that the collision left behind and speaking with people nearby who had seen the incident. They eventually caught up with the injured man and his friends at Turntable Bay and transported the man to Bridge Bay Marina so that he could receive emergency medical care from an ambulance EMT.
Injuries
The ambulance EMTs treated the man for what they described as minor injuries. After receiving treatment from the medics in the ambulance, the individual refused further treatment. The specific injuries that the man sustained in the collision were not reported by responding officers or medical officials.
Causal Factors
Officers have stated that they do not believe alcohol or drugs to have been a factor in the accident. The Boating Safety Unit conducted interviews with witnesses they found at the scene of the accident, but are still asking those with further information to contact the Sheriff’s Office Boating Safety Unit at (530) 245-6075.
Sheriff’s Warning
The Lake Shasta Sheriff’s Office, in response to the incident, reminded the public that, while there is not a speed limit on the lake’s main channels, those using the waterways should always drive their boats at safe rates of speed.
The Lake Shasta Sheriff’s Office also released a statement reminding those on boats in the lake to remember to wear life jackets in case of unexpected accidents that may result in traumatic injuries.
