Accidents on Byron Highway Cause Serious Injuries

I’m Ed Smith, a Brentwood personal injury lawyer, and I want to tell you about two serious accidents on Byron Highway that occurred on May 26, 2017. Both accidents resulted in the hospitalization of at least one person involved.

The First Accident

On 26 May, two vehicles collided near Camino Diablo on Byron Highway. Initial reports say one of the vehicles broadsided the other in what is known as a “T-bone” style accident. The East Contra Costa Fire Department arrived at the scene and extricated one of the victims that were still trapped within a vehicle.

Serious Injuries in the First Accident

After extrication, the most seriously injured victim was flown to the John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek with serious internal injuries and potential head trauma.

Other Injuries in the First Accident

Three other people were also treated for injuries due to the accident. Two of the other victims sustained moderate injuries and were transported to a hospital by ambulance. A third victim received only minor injuries and was transported alongside one of the other victims.

Cause of the First Accident

No official report on the cause of the accident has been released and witnesses to the accident offer no insight into what took place. The stretch of Byron Highway near Camino Diablo is prone to accidents, however, which provide insight into potential causes.

This section of the road narrows to a two-lane highway before expanding at the intersection of Camino Diablo. This leads many people to speed in the intersection as they attempt to pass other vehicles. Speed often plays a role in accidents on Byron Highway, especially those that occur during commute hours like this one.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is investigating the accident.

The Second Accident

Earlier in the day on 26 May at around 2 p.m., another vehicle was in an accident. In this accident, the only vehicle involved lost control near Bruns Road. The vehicle then rolled over and came to rest in a nearby ditch.

Injuries in the Second Accident

Preliminary reports indicate that the victim in the second accident sustained injuries similar to the most seriously injured victim from the first crash. According to initial reports from the scene, the victim sustained head injuries and internal injuries.

The victim is receiving treatment at the John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek. As with the above accident, this alone indicates the victim’s injuries were serious.

Cause of the Second Accident

Authorities have not released any information on the cause of the accident. Because head trauma was a result, there has been a delay in the victim’s statement as to the cause of the accident. The CHP is seeking any potential witnesses to the accident to help determine what happened.

Other Recent Accidents on Byron Highway

As Brentwood personal injury lawyers, we know car accidents are very common on Byron Highway. Another tragic accident occurred last week on 22 May. However, this time a driver suffered fatal injuries during an accident at the same intersection as the second accident discussed above.

Furthermore, several vehicles were involved in this accident. One vehicle crashed into a nearby utility pole in an attempt to avoid the accident.
