Serious Injuries in South Modesto Bicycle Crash
Officials reported serious injuries after a bicycle crash in south Modesto on the afternoon of Thursday, August 19, 2021. The incident occurred on Hatch Road in the vicinity of Dallas Street at approximately 1:15 p.m.
Details on the South Modesto Bicycle Crash Resulting in Serious Injuries
A 35-year-old Ceres man was riding his bicycle west along the north edge of Hatch Road. At the same time, a 27-year-old Oakland man was driving a box truck approaching the cyclist. The box truck reportedly veered to the left in an effort to avoid an accident. Unfortunately, the truck driver’s efforts were unsuccessful as the front of the box truck struck the bicycle, propelling the cyclist off.
The cyclist landed on the road and was transported to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto for treatment of serious head injuries, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP). An update on his condition the following day was not immediately available. The cause of the incident is under investigation by CHP traffic officials.
