Serious Accident Near Grass Valley Requires Extrication

Such was the case for a serious accident near Grass Valley on Highway 20 last week.
Fire Units Respond to Brighton Street
After an accident was reported about a quarter mile west of Brighton Street, it was quickly discovered that fire units were required at the scene. When emergency personnel arrived, they found a 30-foot travel trailer that had somehow tipped over onto its side. Unfortunately, the trailer was resting on top of another vehicle. When the emergency crews looked inside of the other vehicle, they found two people trapped by the accident. One person was trapped in the trailer and the other person was trapped in the passenger vehicle. When a vehicle tips over in such a manner, it is possible for the driver and the passenger to sustain serious traumatic injuries, such as head and brain injuries, and require medical attention.
Rapid Extrication Times
Because the two people were trapped and there was concern surrounding potential fire damage, emergency crews acted with urgency. The extraction crews were able to free both passengers in around 15 minutes. Due to the concern for polytrauma, everyone involved was transported to nearby hospitals either by air or by ambulance. This major accident wound up shutting down both lanes of the highway for around two hours while the emergency crews worked to assess the situation, free the people involved, and make sure that the scene was safe for the cleanup crews. The local authorities are still investigating what caused the accident.
Safety on the Highways is Vital
Just because a road is called a highway doesn’t mean that it is safe to travel at high speeds. When someone is operating a tractor trailer, it is always important to think about the kind of speeds that are safe, especially when taking turns. If someone turns a truck at high speed, it has the potential to flip and cause a major truck accident. The situation is only compounded if the truck lands on top of another vehicle and traps the people inside, such as with this accident. When this kind of negligence or reckless driving takes place, it is important to hold the people involved responsible, especially if a wrongful death occurs.
