Semi Truck Crash in Clearlake Causes Injuries

A semi-truck crash in Clearlake caused major injuries on Sunday, April 12, 2020. The driver of the truck, reportedly a 38-year-old man from the community of Fortuna, was left with major injuries. According to California Highway Patrol (CHP), his vehicle also spilled a large amount of milk into Clear Lake as a result of the accident. The incident remains under an official investigation at this time.

Collision Details

The crash happened just after noon on the westbound side of Highway 20 in the area of Harvey Boulevard. The Fortuna man had been driving west on the highway in a 2013 Kenworth truck while towing a 2008 tank trailer full of milk. For unknown reasons, the semi-truck overturned, and the trailer became detached from the vehicle’s cab.

The vehicle trailer rolled off of the road and came to a rest upside-down in a shallow area of the lake. Police stated that the tank ruptured during the incident and spilled an “undetermined amount of milk” into the water as a result. CHP stated that “swift action (by) Northshore Fire Protection District prevented the release of any other hazardous materials into the lake.”

Injuries

Emergency response officials arrived at the accident scene shortly after it was reported. Responders indicated that they discovered the Fortuna man had suffered severe injuries during the collision and called for a helicopter ambulance to take him to a nearby hospital. Updates on his condition have not yet been reported by staff at the hospital.

Investigation

As police are investigating this crash, no particular suspected factors have been mentioned in reports. Truck collisions can be caused by a wide variety of different causes and often happen because of issues with the vehicle or problems with the roadway. In many cases, these factors aren’t under the control of the involved driver.

Trucking Crashes and Quick Action

After being injured in an auto accident, many people need to pay for a long list of medical costs in order to recover. On top of this, it’s common for injured individuals to suffer a major loss of wages as a result of limited mobility or cognition issues caused by the accident. In these cases, the best thing to do is to talk to a personal injury lawyer about filing a claim and obtaining compensation for your damages.

However, trucking companies are well aware of the risks of running their business and usually take strong actions right away to try and defend themselves from any kind of liability. In order to make sure that your attorney can do everything possible to help you obtain the compensation you deserve, it’s vital to reach out as soon as you can so that your lawyer can start working right away.
