Santa Barbara Rollover Crash

I’m Ed Smith, a Santa Barbara car accident lawyer. A rollover crash along U.S. Route 101 on June 1 caused injuries to the driver of the vehicle. According to a spokesperson for the California Highway Patrol, the reason for the accident is being investigated.

Details of the Crash

The accident happened on the southbound highway near the town of Los Alamos in the Santa Ynez Valley when the Toyota Camry the driver car allegedly rolled a number of times before coming to a stop in the middle center divider. The driver of the vehicle was transported to a hospital in Santa Maria for medical treatment. Reportedly, the driver was not suffering from injuries that were considered life-threatening.

Data on Rollover Accidents

Rollover accidents tend to be complicated and more severe than other types of road accidents, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Data provided by the agency shows that they tend to occur most often on rural roads, and because of the lack of protective barriers or divisions in the middle, are more likely to be fatal. The data suggests that since 90 percent of the fatalities occurred during ordinary driving, that is, driving straight or around a curve, it might suggest that some type of driver error contributed to the accidents.

Causes of Rollovers

Other than location where the accident occurred and the type of vehicle, since some vehicles are more prone to rollovers than others, other factors might come into play as causes of this type of accident. Distracted driving, speeding, consumption of alcoholic beverages or drugs and momentary inattention may all be factors.

Devastating injuries may occur as a consequence of a rollover crash. Common injuries may include traumatic brain injuries, broken bones and spinal cord injuries. WebMD reports that long-lasting psychological problems may also result from the impact of a car crash. Obviously, more serious injuries may require a long recovery time, and the individual may experience a life-altering incident. When faced with permanently ongoing medical expenses and other costs and facing life-altering changes in your life, it only makes sense to seek financial compensation when the accident was someone else’s fault.
