Sacramento Woman Fatally Injured After Being Struck by Her Own Vehicle

A 70-year-old Sacramento woman fatally injured after being struck by her own vehicle died following the incident on Friday evening, May 15, 2026, according to the Sacramento Police Department.

Incident Occurred in River Park Neighborhood

Officers responded just before 7:30 p.m. on Sandburg Drive in Sacramento’s River Park neighborhood following reports of a serious incident involving a vehicle and a pedestrian.

Police said the woman was accidentally struck by her own vehicle after it rolled backward while not in park. Authorities stated the vehicle rolled onto the woman before continuing across the street and colliding with another parked vehicle, where it eventually came to a stop.

Victim Succumbed to Injuries at Hospital

Emergency responders transported the woman to a local hospital for treatment. Despite lifesaving efforts, she later succumbed to her injuries.

The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office confirmed the victim was a Sacramento resident, though her identity has not yet been publicly released.

Investigation Remains Ongoing

Detectives with the Sacramento Police Department’s Major Collision Investigation Unit and Crime Scene Investigators are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident. Authorities stated that foul play is not suspected.
