Gerber Road Accident Injures at Least One Person in Intersection

A Sacramento two-vehicle accident on October 20 sent one person to a local hospital with injuries. The accident was reported by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) as happening at Gerber Road and Wilbur Way in the Florin area around 8:16 p.m. The eastbound lanes, except one, were closed to traffic while the injured person was assessed by emergency personnel with the Sacramento Fire Department, and the accident scene was investigated. The roadway was reopened to traffic around 8:40 p.m. It was not reported whether alcohol or drug consumption was a factor in the two-vehicle accident.

Causes of a Sacramento Two-Vehicle Accident

A multiple-vehicle crash is common, especially at intersections. There are many reasons they occur, but most are due to driver negligence. Some of the main reasons a two-vehicle accident occurs at a crossroad include:

  • Rear-end collisions: In this scenario, a driver is waiting at the intersection for the light to change and ends up getting rear-ended. Usually, the driver that strikes another vehicle in this way is either distracted, fatigued and not paying attention or speeding.
  • Running a red light or stop sign: Drivers who are speeding or drunk driving are more apt to run a red light, causing a two-vehicle accident.
  • Making a right turn: One of the problems with intersections that have multiple lanes is that the motorist may not have a clear view of oncoming traffic to make a safe right-hand turn. When the driver turns and another vehicle is oncoming, it can cause a T-bone accident.
  • Turning left in front of traffic: When the green left-turn arrow starts flashing, drivers know that it will soon turn red. An impatient motorist may continue to turn even though traffic is starting to move toward them. This mistake can cause a head-on collision.
  • Changing lanes while turning: A driver who tries to change lanes while turning can end up causing a sideswipe or other accident.

Intersection Accident Liability and Damages

When more than one vehicle is involved in a traffic accident, seeking the services of an experienced attorney is common if injuries are involved. This is because the injured party needs to obtain compensation to pay their medical bills, lost wages, and other costs. The at-fault party will want to avoid being found liable, which could cost them a fine, possible charges, and points on their record. If they already have points on their record or the charge is serious, they could end up having their driver’s license suspended.

This is why when someone is injured in an intersection collision, it’s a good idea to consult with an experienced accident attorney. Over my years as an injury attorney, I’ve successfully handled many cases, obtaining for my clients the compensation that they deserve.

Investigating an Intersection Accident

We send out investigators to an accident site right away to gather the evidence needed to support a client’s compensation claim. The investigators talk to witnesses, check for mistakes in the police report and perform accident reconstruction. They also look for video footage from nearby cameras and signs of government negligence that could have caused the Sacramento two-vehicle intersection accident. Our lawyers use the gathered evidence to build a case that favors our client’s compensation claim.
